    Martin Luther King, Jr. Project Requirements

    The class will be divided into groups of four for this collaborative project on Martin
    Luther King, Jr. Each group will do research on Martin Luther King, Jr. and develop a paper
    about his life and accomplishments. Each student in the group is responsible for their own paper.
    You can work and do research together, but the paper has to be an individual effort. The paper
    should be at least 2 pages long typed in Microsoft Word. Parameters for the document are as
    follows:
    1. Times New Roman font at a size of 12.
    2. 1.5 line spacing.
    3. At least five indented paragraphs.
    4. Footnotes if required when quoting exact word of an author.
    5. Bibliography that documents the sources from the web that were used.
    6. The paper must be neat and free of spelling and grammar errors.
    In the last paragraph, share your thoughts on the importance of Martin Luther King, Jr.
    What makes him important? Did you agree with his actions? What events in his life were
    especially meaningful?
    The group will work together to develop a poster that will be presented to the class as a
    final part of the project. Using pictures that depict a part of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life,
    explain the significance of the pictures to the class. What part of his life or events in his life or
    his philosophy did the group choose to depict on the poster? Why did the group choose this part
    of his life to show to the class? Parameters for the poster are as follows:
    1. Use at least an 11” X 14” size of poster board, but you could use the
    standard 22” X 28” if the group chooses to do so.
    2. You must have at least 8 pictures to display.
    3. Pictures can be a mixture of black and white and/or color prints.
    4. Make captions for each picture. These can be lettered directly on the
    poster board or you can make labels in a word processing program.
    5. Each person in the group must have a part in describing the pictures, what
    are the pictures showing us and why are they important.
    6. If any direct quotes are used, make sure that you make a footnote on the
    back of the poster board to give credit to that author.

    As a final requirement of the project, students must have a bibliography page. This is a
    page that documents the resources used in your research. You must have at least 3 website
    resources that you used. Students may choose to find their own websites for the research, but
    check in with the teacher first. Also, you must have a website evaluation tool worksheet for each
    website that is used as a source for your project. This includes any resources you use for the
    poster, as well. The Website Evaluation Tool is available on the following website:

    Project Web Portal to help you format it correctly. A link for the proper formatting of a
    bibliography will also be on the web portal for referencing.
    The class will be given three weeks in which to work upon this project. We will take
    some time in class to do the research, but you are responsible to doing work outside of class as
    well. If anyone has problems, I am here to help out. This is your project and you have total
    control over the outcome of your efforts.
