Configure Microsoft Outlook 2007 to Access
Your MOE E-mail from anywhere outside
MOE Putrajaya Campus Network.
Introduction
All Ministry of Education (MOE), officers and support staff are provided with an Exchange
e-mail account. Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Web Access are the supported applications
for accessing this account.
If you choose to use Microsoft Outlook to access your MOE e-mail account from outside
MOE Putrajaya Campus Network (PCN) connection, either through streamyx or hotspots, it is
recommended to configure Microsoft Outlook to use RPC over HTTPS.
This document provides the steps to create a profile in Microsoft Outlook 2007 that uses
RPC over HTTPS. In order to use RPC over HTTPS, Windows XP Service Pack 2 and higher is
strongly recommended (Windows XP Service Pack 1 with hotfix Q331320 is required).
Procedure
NOTE: If you have never opened or accessed Microsoft Outlook on this particular computer,
these steps may differ a bit. Begin this process instead by opening Microsoft Outlook. The
first time that Outlook is accessed on a specific computer, the Outlook Startup Wizard will
begin the setup process for you. Though the following steps are not specific to the wizard,
the information provided, starting at step 1.F, will assist you in completing the wizard and
configuring Outlook to use RPC over HTTPS.
1. Creating a New Outlook 2007 Profile to Use RPC over HTTPS
A. Click the Start menu, and click Control Panel (or point to Settings, and click
Control Panel). In the Control Panel, if you are using Category View, click User
Accounts, and then click Mail. If you are using Classic View, double-click Mail.
NOTE: Depending on your Windows XP service pack and updates level, when
using Category View, you may instead need to click Other Control Panel Options
in the left-hand pane, and then click Mail.
B. In the Mail Setup - Outlook window, click Show Profiles.
C. In the Mail window, click Add.
D. In the New Profile window, in the Profile Name box, enter a name for this profile
(e.g: Outlook Anywhere), and click OK.
E. In the Auto Account Setup window, select the Manually configure server
settings or additional server types check box, and click Next.
F. In the Choose E-mail Service window, select Microsoft Exchange, and click Next.
G. In the Microsoft Exchange Settings window:
In the Microsoft Exchange Server box, type
kpmpujexb01.kpmdom.moe.gov.my, and select the Use Cached
Exchange Mode check box.
In the User Name box, enter your KPMDOM username.
Click More Settings.
H. At this point, the application will attempt to resolve your username on the
Exchange server. If you are outside MOE PCN when configuring this profile, you
will get the warning that the action cannot be completed. Click OK.
I. When prompted to confirm your username and mailbox, click Cancel.
J. In the Microsoft Exchange window, select the Connection tab, and in the
Connection section, select the method that you use to connect to the Internet.
In the Outlook Anywhere section, select the Connect to my Exchange mailbox
using HTTP check box, and click Exchange Proxy Settings.
K. In the Exchange Proxy Settings window, in the Connection settings section:
In the Use this URL to connect to my proxy server for Exchange box, type
webmail.moe.gov.my
Select the Connect using SSL only check box.
Select the Only connect to proxy servers that have this principal name in
their certificate check box, and type msstd:webmail.moe.gov.my in the
box.
In the Proxy authentication settings section, in the Use this
authentication when connecting to my proxy server for Exchange box,
select NTLM Authentication, and click OK
L. In the Microsoft Exchange window, click OK.
M. In the Microsoft Exchange Settings window, click Next.
N. In the Congratulations window, click Finish.
O. In the Mail window, select Prompt for a profile to be used or Always use this
profile and select the profile you just created (depending on your preference),
and click OK.
2. Opening Microsoft Outlook 2007 and Your Outlook Anywhere Profile
A. Click the Start menu, point to All Programs (or Programs), point to Microsoft
Office, and click Microsoft Office Outlook 2007. Choose Outlook Anywhere and
click OK.
NOTE: If you have an Outlook icon on your Desktop, you can also open it from
there. If not, you can create a shortcut to it and place it on the Desktop: click the
Start menu button, point to All Programs (or Programs), point to Microsoft
Office, right-click on Microsoft Office Outlook 2007, click Send to, and click
Desktop (create shortcut).
B. In the Connect to kpmpujexb01.KPMDOM.moe.gov.my window, enter your
KPMDOM username in the format kpmdom\username, enter your KPMDOM
password, and click OK.
C. Outlook will open to your MOE e-mail account using the RPC over HTTPS
connection.
NOTE: The first time your RPC over HTTPS profile is opened, it will take longer
than normal and will be slower as it caches all of the existing information in
your mailbox. Check the right-hand side of the Status bar at the bottom of the
Outlook window to view the update status of your folders.
