RSFactoryTalk SE & Microsoft SQL Server - PLCS

sayssomethinglikeQuickStartFactoryTalkAlarmsandEvents.Ithasastepbystepinstructionshowtomakeit
happen,includinginstallationofSQLServerExpress.

Okay,IhadpreviouslyinstalledSQLServer2005ExpressfromtheRedistfolderontheFTVSECD,andhadalso
followedthepdfinstructionsfromthelinkintheHelpfile.Itlookedtobeareasonablesetofeasytofollow
instructions,butthenIgotstuckintheusualRockwellmire...Whenaddinganewdatabase,havingchosenDefinition
Name,tickedMicrosoftSQLServerExpress,etc.etc.Iclickedok.
NowIgetaSQLServerLogOndialogueboxpoppedupaskingmetoentertheUserNameandPasswordofadatbase
userwithsystemadministratorpriviledges.ItriedthesameDatbaseusernameandpasswordasjustentered,clickok
andallIgetisanerrormessagefromFTAEHistorian"Unabletoconnecttothedatabase.Databaseerror[Microsoft]
[ODBCSQLServerDriver][DBMSLPCN]SQLServerdoesnotexistoraccessdenied"
Ihavecheckedtherulesunder"passwordvalidationfailure"andI'mnotbreakingany!

limitations.IHaveworkedwithC#expresswithSQLserverexpressandifIremembercorrectlytheyneedtobeon
thesameboxorC#can'tconnecttotheDB.Sorryifthisisnohelp.

usersetupwiththatpassword,permissioncomingfromthatIPaddress(localhost/127.0.0.1),andpermissiontothe

AnotherthinktoconsideraboutSQLServerExpressisthatitusesthishoaky"namedpipes"connectioninsteadofthe
standardTCPconnectionsthatthefullblownversionuses.Youshouldbegoodonthesoftwaresidesinceitsoundslike
