QUANTUM MultiPort
Isolation Packer
Applications
Low-pressure zonal isolation
Intelligent completions
Variety of service applications in
both normal and hostile environments
Temperatures from 250F to 350F
[121C to 177C]
Benefits and features
Field-tested, reliable design allows
the addition of access ports and
facilitates on-site tailoring to
specific applications.
Multiple pressure-isolated ports
add reliability to makeup of
bypass lines and simplify
completion operations.
Locking screws on the body joints
assist tubing rotation during
retrieval.
Packing element has integral
antiextrusion devices to prevent
wash off during running.
Body parts locked to mandrel
prevent premature setting during
running operations.
The QUANTUM MultiPort* (QMP)
isolation packer is a rugged, reliable
and retrievable packer solution for
intelligent completions. It is used as
the upper packer in stacked configurations in completions with surfacecontrolled, subsurface flow control
valves, tubing mounted reservoir monitoring equipment and electric submersible pumps. The packer design
allows on-site feed through and connection of electric and hydraulic conduits. It offers multiple pressureisolated ports to access small hydraulic conduits, heavy electric power
cables or power and monitoring
cables for downhole gauges.

The QMP packer allows simultaneous setting of multiple packers; it is
capable of simultaneous testing of
bypass seals on the rig floor; and it
facilitates emergency milling operations for retrieval. The reliable, fieldproven design eliminates leak
potential due to thread backoff. There
are no potential leak paths located
above the packing element. The
design also maximizes the sealing
integrity of the packing element and
gripping capabilities of the slips.
The MultiPort packer eliminates
tripping the tubing or slickline operations as well as special space out operations and equipment to install and
retrieve completion components. In
addition, the packer is hydraulically
set on the production tubing eliminating the need to manipulate the tubing
to fully set the packer. With the QMP
packer, there is no mandrel movement and subsequent bypass line
stretch during setting or releasing
the packer.
The packer features a straight-pull
shear release and an eccentric-flow
bore, one-piece mandrel design. A
large mandrel bore makes the QMP
packer ideal for completions requiring tubing with a large inside diameter, such as monobore completions.
The design of the twin settingpistons maximizes the force transferred to the slips and packing elements. The piston-setting mechanism
sets the sealing element and the bidirectional slips. The upper setting
ports allow the elements to be set
independently of the slips.
The shear release value of the QMP
packer can be easily adjusted on-site
because the shear ring (on the packer
body) is externally accessible.
A straight pull release mechanism
provides a reliable and effective
retrieval method. The bypass channels

are opened and fitted with bypass lines
on location. Control lines sealed with
ferrule-type connectors or cables, or
both, can be fed through the packer
mandrel and simultaneously tested on
the rig floor, which limits the number
of control line terminations at the
packer. This feature is particularly beneficial when an electrical feed-through
is needed.
The field-proven sealing element
assembly will sustain temperatures to
250F [121C], and the antiextrusion
devices provide positive interference
with the casing to aid in minimizing
seal extrusion. The optional high-temperature version will sustain temperatures to 350F [177C].
The QMP series packer is available
for a variety of service applications
including H2S and CO2.
