1.0DurationfortheProgramme
PostgraduateprogrammesleadingtoM.Tech.degreewillextendoveraperiodof4semesterseach
semesterwillnormallyhaveadurationof75networkingdays.

2.0EligibilityForAdmissions
2.1)CandidateforadmissiontotheM.Tech.degreeprogrammesshouldhavepassedthefinal
examinationofthe4year(or8semester)B.E.orB.Tech.degreeprogrammeofanappropriatebranch
ofstudy(videAppendixI)oranexaminationacceptedbySASTRAasequivalentthereto.

2.2)SASTRAwillprescribe,fromtotime,othereligibilityconditionsregarding:theminimummarks
securedinthequalifyingexaminations,permittednumberofattemptsforobtainingthedegree,
qualifyingperformanceinentrancetests,physicalfitness,etc.

2.3)Thesponsoredcandidatesshouldsatisfytheconditionsregardingsponsorshipthatmaybe
prescribedbySASTRAfromtimetotime.
3.0ProgramStructure&theCreditSystem
3.1)EachM.Tech.Programmewillhaveacurriculum,withsyllabiconsistingofa)Corecourses,which
giveabroadbaseinthemainfieldofstudyintheacademicprogramconcernedb)Electivecourses
chosenbythestudentinconsultationwiththefacultyadviserc)Projectworkwherespecialemphasisis
laidontheapplicationofknowledgetoreallifeproblems.d)Theprogramwillalsoincludeseminarsand
practicaltraining,asprescribedbytheBoardofStudiesinthecurriculum&syllabiandapprovedbyThe
AcademicCouncil.

3.2)EachcourseiscoordinatedbyaCourseCoordinatorwhohasthefullresponsibilityforconducting
thecourse.

3.3)Eachcoursehasacertainnumberofcreditsassignedtoit,dependinguponitslecture,tutorial&
laboratorycontactperiodsinaweek.

3.4)Therearemainlytwotypesofcoursesthatastudenthasundergolecturecourses&practical
courses.Thepracticalcoursesshallincludelaboratories,workshopsandgraphicclasses.Everycourse
hasbeenassignedacertainnumberofcredits,accordingtothefollowingpattern:
a)1creditforeachlectureperiod/week
b)0creditforeachtutorialperiod/week
c)1creditforeachpracticalsessionof3periods/week&
d)1creditforseminarsessionof3periods/week.

3.5)Alettergrade,correspondingtothemarkssecuredbythestudent,isawardedforeachcoursefor

whichastudenthasregistered.Onobtainingapassgrade,thestudentaccumulatesthecoursecredits
asearnedcredits.Astudent'sprogressismeasuredbythenumberofcreditsthatthestudenthas
earnedandthegradepointaverage.

4.0CompletionofM.TechProgrammes
4.1)Astudentearnscreditsbypassingcoursesineverysemester.Astudent,whohasregisteredfor
M.Tech.degreeprogramme,hastoacquire63creditstobeeligiblefortheawardofthedegree.

4.2)Thecourseswillbeofferedinsemesterpattern.Foreachcoursethatthestudentundergoesduring
asemester,therewillbeaContinuousAssessment(CA)foramaximumof50%marks.Thiswillbebased
onthestudent'sperformanceinthemonthlytests,seminars,quizzes,assignments,etc.Therewillbe
oneexaminationof3hoursdurationattheendofthesemesterforeachcreditedlecturecourse.End
semesterexaminationsofpracticalcourseswillbeof3periodsduration,andmaybeconductedwithin
oneweekfromthelastworkingdayofthatsemester.

4.3)Thecommencement&durationoftheProjectWorkwillbeaspertheapprovedcurriculumforthe
programme.

4.4)Project/Dissertation:Eachstudentisrequiredtotakeupadissertation(orproject).Theproject
work(orthetopicfordissertation),chosenbythestudentandtheguide,shouldbeapprovedthetopic
fordissertation),chosenbythestudentandtheguide,shouldbeapprovedbytheHeadofthe
Department/Divisionbytheendofthesecondsemester.TwotypedcopiesoftheProjectReport/
DissertationshallbesubmittedtoSASTRAthroughtheHeadoftheDepartment/Divisiononorbefore
thedatefixedbySASTRA.IncaseastudentsubmitstheProjectReportIDissertationaftertheduedate
butbeforetheendof3yearsfromthedatehisadmission,hisvivavoceexaminationwillbeconducted
alongwiththesubsequentbatchofstudents.

4.5)AstudentshouldcompletetheM.Tech.programmewithinaperiodof4years(i.e.8semesters)
fromthedateofadmission.

5.0AcademicScheduleofM.TechDegreeProgrammes
5.1)Normally,theoddsemesterclasseswillbeconductedfromAugusttoDecemberofayear.The
regularandsupplementaryexaminationsforoddsemestercourseswillbeconductedduringDecember.
Similarly,theevensemesterclasseswillbeconductedduringJanuaryMayofayear.Theregular
supplementaryexaminationsfortheevensemestercourseswillbeconductedduringMayJune.

6.0RequirementsforSuccessfulCompletionofCourse&EarningCredits
6.1)Studentsmustattendeverylecture,tutorialandpracticalclass.However,inordertoprovidefor
illnessandsuchothercontingencies,aminimumattendancepercentagehasbeenprescribedforeach
course.Percentageofattendanceofastudentinacoursewillbethenumberofclassesattendedinthat
coursedividedbythenumberofclassesactuallyconductfromthedateofhisadmissionandmultiplied
by100.Astudentcanappearinanendsemesterexaminationforaparticularcourseonlywhenhe/she
hasputinaminimumattendanceof75%inthatcourse.Astudentshouldnecessarilyregisterforthe
endsemesterexaminationsinalltheregularandarrearcourses.

6.2)Astudentwhohasnotsatisfiedtheminimumattendancerequirementof75%willnotbeallowedto

appearfortheendsemesterexamination.Thestudentwillhavetorepeatthecoursewhenitisoffered
next.

6.3)Astudentshouldappearfortheendsemesterexaminationsinalltheregularcourses(pertainingto
thatsemester)inwhichhe/shehassatisfiedtheattendancerequirements.

6.4)Outoftotalof100marksallottedforeachcourse,50marksareallottedforcontinuousassessment,
and50marksfortheendsemesterexamination.

6.5)Acandidateshouldsecureatleast40%(i.e.,20marks)inthecontinuousassessmentforthecourse;
ifnot,thestudentwillhavetorepeatthecoursewhenitisofferednext.Thebreakupofthemarksfor
continuousassessmentforacourseisasgivenbelow:

6.6)Astudentisdeclaredtohavepassedacourseifhe/shegets(a)aminimumof40%marksinthe
continuousassessment,(b)40%ormoremarksintheendsemesterexaminationand(c)anaggregate
ofnotlessthan50%inthecontinuousassessmentandtheendsemesterexaminationmarksput
together.

6.7)(a)Astudentgettinglessthan75%attendanceinacourseand/orlessthan40%marksin
continuousassessmentwillget"I"gradeforthatcourse.(b)Astudentgettinglessthan40%marksin
theendsemesterexaminationand/orlessthan50%inthecontinuousassessmentandendsemester
examinationsputtogetherwillget"F"gradeforthatcourse.


6.8)(a)Acandidatewhogets"I"gradeforacourseduringasemesterwillhavetorepeatthecourse
whenitisofferednext.(b)Acandidatewhogets"F"gradeforacourseduringasemestermayappear
forsupplementaryexaminationinsubsequentsemester,toclearthearrears.

6.9)Fortheprojecttheschemeofevaluationwillbeasfollows:

7.0EvaluationofAcademicPerformance&Promotion
7.1)Coursewisegradesareawardedtothestudentsbyadoptingthefollowingscheme,basedonthe
aggregatemarksscoredbythestudentinthecourse(whichincludesinternalassessmentmarksand
endsemesterexaminationmarks).

7.2)Ifastudentgets40%marksormoreincontinuousassessment,butscoreslessthan50%aggregate
marksandawardedwith"F"grade,he/shemayappearforsupplementaryexaminationattheendofthe
followingsemester.

7.3)Ifastudentscoreslessthan40%marksincontinuousassessment,orifastudenthasattendance
deficiency,he/shewillbeawardedan"Incomplete"grade(I,pointvalue=0).Thestudentwillhaveto
repeatthecourse,whenitisofferednext.

7.4)CumulativeGradePointAverage(CGPA)iscalculatedasfollows:

7.5)Astudentwillbepermittedtoregisterforthenexthighersemestercourses,butcanappearforthe
ProjectVivaVoceexaminationonlyifhe/shesecuredaminimumCGPAof5.0andhasnotgot"I"grade
inanycourseatthatpointoftime.IftheCGPAislessthanthe5.0,thestudentwillhavetoclearthe
academicdeficiency(improvetheCGPAtoaminimumof5.0)beforeappearingfortheProjectViva

voceexamination.Ifastudentgotany"I"gradehe/sheshouldredothecoursewhenitisofferednext.
Ifthatcourseinnotoffered,heshoulddoadulyapprovedalternativecourse,beforeappearingforthe
ProjectVivavoceexamination.However,heshouldsubmittheprojectreportattheendoftheproject
semesteritself.
