PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Lead Data Scientist is expected to anticipate future business needs, identify opportunities,
gather and analyze data to address highly complex business problems and evaluate scenarios to
make predictions on future outcomes and support decision making. Design of new standards and
best practices in the use of statistical data modeling, big data and optimization tools is also
expected.
Execute solutions to business problems using data analysis, data mining, optimization
tools, and machine learning techniques and statistics
Build data-science and technology based algorithmic solutions to address business needs
Anticipates and Evaluates impact of analytical solutions on related projects as part of the
developing complex analytical algorithm/solutions for various business problems
Execute large scale models using Logistic Regression, Linear Models Family (Poisson
models, Survival models, Hierarchical models, Nave-Bayesian estimators), Conjoint
Analysis, Spatial models, Time-series models, Text mining
Stays current with analytical advancements, determine and deliver through right
algorithm for suitable solutions
Prioritizes workload, ensure high quality of solutions, adherence to standards and best
practices, high performance, and timely delivery.
Understands interrelationships and impacts of data and technology upon the Target
environment
Participates in project estimation & reviews
Provides advanced analytical knowledge and expertise to the broader organization
Identifies and escalates issues and, when necessary, pulls appropriate teams together to
solve challenge/issue, etc
Encourages team members to deep dive into analytical problems.
Participates in internal & external technology & analytical forums and discussions

JOB REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
B.Tech (+8 years of relevant exp), M.Tech, M.Sc. (+6 years of relevant exp), Ph.D. (+3
years of relevant experience) in Engineering, Operation Research, Mathematics,
Engineering, Statistics preferred
Experienced in data analysis, data mining, mathematical modeling and programming,
statistical analysis, forecasting/predictive modeling, simulations, optimization,
visualizations, machine learning, etc.
Strong analytical, problem solving, and conceptual skills.
Demonstrated ability to work with ambiguous problem definitions, recognize
dependencies and deliver impactful solutions through logical problem solving and
technical ideations
Ability to learn new analytical methods and technologies and apply in practical business
problems
Ability to work independently with little supervision to research and test innovative
solutions.
Must be able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and changing priorities.
Good interpersonal, problem solving, reasoning and analytical skills
Self-starter with self initiative and direction & open to collaboration.
Knowledge in Python, Pig, Hive, Mahout, R and other open source softwares
Ability to work with voluminous data from various sources.
Experience designing algorithms on Hadoop ecosystem

As a Lead Data Scientist, you will help transform GEICOs business decision process by harnessing the
power of Big Data through predictive analytics and innovative machine learning models. The Lead Data
Scientist will apply logical, systematic approach to solving business problems using mathematical and
statistical techniques, quantitative analytical approaches and innovative approaches to implement
recommendations to drive change. We are seeking a Lead Data Scientist to direct a team of data
scientists who support systems and business optimization through detailed analysis of GEICOs data.
The Data Scientist team drives strategic business initiatives by researching, analyzing and interpreting
data; developing algorithms to evaluate customer behavior and identify areas of opportunity; presenting
analysis and recommendations; and participating with business units and IT to deliver innovative,
actionable business models. The Lead Data Scientist will be responsible for assisting in the definition of
data mining and machine learning strategies and the execution of corresponding procedures. The
candidate will participate with, and direct the work of, a team of data scientists to find solutions for
business problems through the use of data.The ideal candidate will lead as a collaborative team member
a team of Decision Science Analysts involved in gathering, manipulating and synthesizing data,
developing models and effectively identifying other information needed to draw conclusions, make
recommendations and implement solutions.
Candidate Qualifications
A background in data mining, machine learning and distributed computing is desired
Bachelors Degree or Master's Degree in a quantitative discipline such as Mathematics, Statistics,
Finance, Accounting, Economics, Operational Research or a related discipline
6 plus years experience in a decision support analytic function is a must
4 plus years of quantitative analysis experience
Knowledge of Hadoop, Pig, Hive and MapReduce
8 plus years experience in a decision support analytic function
Experience on a Hadoop Platform
Experience with Python, Perl or other scripting language
Familiarity with object-oriented programming concepts
Experience in Java or C++ is a plus
Demonstrated proficiency with statistical computing languages such as R, MATLAB, etc
Experience with integrating large-scale heterogeneous datasets
Expertise with statistical research techniques, including modeling, data mining, clustering and
segmentation
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with third parties and internal staff
at all levels of the organization
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
