Peripherals: 3/31/2006 Y.H.Dandawate 1

The document discusses various components of video display systems and peripherals. It describes the two main components of a video display system as the monitor and video adapter. It then discusses cathode ray tube (CRT) displays and how characters are displayed on a CRT in a matrix form using a character generator ROM and video buffer. It also covers signal generation circuitry, CRT interface/video adapters, and the MC6845 CRT controller. Additional topics include graphics display, video adapters, keyboard organization and types, mouse construction and interface types.

Graphics Display
For displaying graphics information on screen, dot
patterns of images are stored in the display RAM
and send directly to shift register in sequence ,
which in turn swept out on video line. The
character generator ROM is not used in graphics
display. Each byte in RAM provides pattern of
eight dots.Dot represents smallest possible picture
element on the screen , it is called as picture
element or simply a pixel.
The number of pixels on the screen represents
resolution of Screen.
