PN1:008

Site Evaluation

Introduction
Site evaluation is the process of checking the installation of a PROVOX
process management system for proper power, grounding, and
environmental conditions before bringing the system on-line.
Pre-startup inspection makes sure that installation design criteria is met
and that all applicable wiring codes are met. It also points out installation
flaws to be corrected before startup. Installation faults corrected before
system operation provide easier startup and can bring significant cost
savings. In addition, a follow-up inspection after six months of operation
makes sure that any early failures are found and corrected.
Checklists and associated data sheets are used to guide the
evaluation. The checklists and data sheets are an integral part of the
Fisher-Rosemount Systems Site Certification Program available through
any Fisher-Rosemount field representative and sales office. However,
whether or not Site Certification is elected, it is highly recommended that
both new installations and add-ons to existing ones be evaluated.

1.1

Intended Audience
The checklists are intended for use by plant personnel, who are
knowledgeable about environmental conditions and electrical power
circuits. The checklists are also intended for use by authorized
Fisher-Rosemount Systems factory or field personnel to perform a site
evaluation before the plant is enrolled in the Site Certification Program.

1.2

CE Statement
If you intend to have your PROVOX system certified for compliance to
appropriate European Union directives, the following CE statement is
extremely important to your ability to achieve that compliance.

This manual describes installation and

maintenance procedures for products
which have been tested to be in
compliance with appropriate CE
directives. To maintain compliance,
these products must be installed and
maintained according to the
procedures described in this manual.
Failure to follow the procedures may
compromise compliance.

Excellence in Documentation
Our goal is to provide documents that meet your needs. Through
surveys and interviews, we continually evaluate our documents as part
of the broad Fisher-Rosemount Systems customer-support program.
Various manuals are produced for different purposes and for readers
with varying backgrounds and experience.
Please assist us in the evaluation of this manual by completing the
reader evaluation form located at the front of the document. In addition, if
you have any suggestions for specific pages, return a marked-up copy
along with your survey.

Instructions for Site Evaluation

Pre-startup evaluation guides inspection of a system before it is brought
on-line. One pre-startup checklist is used before power is applied to
make sure the environment in which the system is situated and the
electrical circuits of the system, both power and ground, are correct.
Another pre-startup checklist is used to make sure that the power
sources are correctly rated and loaded before total system power up is
attempted.
Post-startup evaluation guides inspection of the installation site after the
system has been in operation for six months, and every six months
thereafter if the site is enrolled in the Site Certification program.
Six-month evaluations are required for yearly certification renewal.
Installation areas covered by this checklist are power and ground Wiring
and environmental conditions.

PN1:008

Revision A October 1995

Site Evaluation

Accompanying data sheets provide a record of conditions at inspection.

Such a record assures of initial installation compliance and also is very
helpful when used as part of an on-going maintenance program. If Site
Certification is elected, the Technical Support Services group of
Fisher-Rosemount Systems also keeps these records on file as evidence
of site compliance and worthiness. Customers using the forms as only an
installation guide may contact Fisher-Rosemount Systems field
representatives or sales offices regarding questions that arise.
For sites enrolled in the Site Certification program, the completed forms
must be signed off and forwarded to the Technical Support Services
group, either in Austin, Texas or Leicester, United Kingdom. depending
on the world area where the site is located.
Fill in a set of checklists and data sheets for each instrumentation ground
system. Use as many checklists and data sheets as needed to record all
required data. If, during evaluation, sections of the checklists do not
apply to the system installation, state so on the checklist with a brief
description of why.

2.1

Required Equipment
The following equipment is required for site evaluation:
J

Power Line Analyzer

Environmental Test Unit with special corrosion coupons

Power and ground test Kit

Clamp-On RMS Ammeter (for AC and DC current measurements)

Recording Thermometers (type that locks-on the reading two

required per cabinet)

Reactivity Coupons (for replacing installed coupons)

Voltmeter (Analog or digital)

Oscilloscope

Be sure to record the specific equipment used in the tables at the back
of the checklists.

2.2
