FYP LOGBOOK
INTRODUCTION
The FYP logbook is a combination of general guideline for the FYP and also a journal to
record all FYP activities throughout the two semesters. This book is an important
mechanism for the faculty/supervisor to evaluate students attitude and ability and also to
monitor the status of the students project throughout the semester.
Students are required to write clearly and honestly all activities performed and then to
summarize their work every week. This is essential since part of the final marks received
by the students on their FYP will be based on what they have recorded in this logbook.
Students are highly encouraged to maintain a separate file/folder to compile all their
findings/printouts/datasheets as a complement to this logbook.
A REMINDER TO STUDENTS
1.
2.
All activities conducted must be recorded at the activities section in the logbook.
Signatures of relevant persons can also be recorded as proof of your claim at the
activities section (optional but highly recommended).
3.
This logbook must be submitted to your supervisors along with your Project 1
Report to be graded by your supervisor at the required date (refer to Activities
Schedule).
4.
If the thesis draft or the final hardbound thesis is not presented by the student to
the faculty, the students final examination marks can be withheld by the faculty.
5.
A student can be given the failure grade by the Faculty if he/she was found not
able to achieve the minimum requirement of this subject (subject to approval or
suggestion by the supervisor).

Students are advised to find their own project topic and discuss the topic with
their supervisor. Besides, supervisor also can suggest the project topic to the
students if any.
A project shall have minimum ONE (1) input that can either be digital input or
analog input. Students should be able to identify and describe the input
characteristics of their project including input type, waveform (if any), magnitude,
frequency, etc.
A project shall have minimum TWO (2) outputs. The output might be a
combination of movement (kinematics), visual (LED, LCD, lamp, indicator etc.),
audio (speaker, buzzer, sound etc.)
A project shall utilize minimum ONE (1) microcontroller such as arduino, PIC,
Atmel or etc. The students are required to program the microcontroller according
to their assembly language or using C programming.
Students are required to perform circuit simulation to show the expected output of
the project. They can use any related software for circuit simulation.
Students are required to design and fabricate a Printed Circuit Board (PCB). All
the related components for the project shall be assembled and soldered on PCB.
This requirement to be fulfilled in final year project 2 (FYP2) for the subsequent
semester.
