Bronte School

Headmasters Newsletter 27
6th February 2015
A variety of useful topics were covered at last Thursdays
Parents Council meeting, and I am grateful to all the Council
members. The minutes will be issued shortly.
Children and adults alike love stories. Writing ones own story
is quite a skill, and last week Year 1 were embarking on their
first written stories. The standards were excellent. Very well
done to Jonathan Grierson and David Onochie-Oputa for their
epics about various epic journeys, Jonathans in a Minecraft
setting.

Bronte Friends' most recent fundraising has been for a new

smart board for the IT room. On behalf of everyone in the
school, Id like to thank the Friends for this. Its a great piece
of equipment which really does transform the room. It will
greatly enhance the teaching and learning experiences
there. So, quite rightly, Thank You Bronte Friends was one
of the first images on the screen! Mrs Walsh and some
children are shown here, putting the screen through its
paces.

With Australia and New Zealand cricket teams touring this

summer, there will be plenty of cricketing interest. Im
delighted that many Bronte children are involved with cricket,
and can report that Rio Thind this weekend has trial nets with
Kent County Cricket Club, with the potential to go forward to
the countys youth team. He is a promising all-rounder, and we
wish him well at the weekend.
Year 3 have been learning all about the Tudors as part of their
history curriculum and this week they were learning about
Tudor clothes. Did you know that there were all sorts of laws
surrounding what Tudor people were allowed to wear? For
example, only the royal family could wear purple, only lords
and knights who owned land were able to wear red or blue but
farmers and labourers had to wear clothes made from wool
costing no more than two shillings. The punishment for
breaking these rules was three days in the stocks!
