Enthalpy of Combustion Updates2015

This student conducted a flame calorimetry experiment to determine the standard enthalpies of combustion of various alcohols. The student measured the temperature change of water upon combustion of each alcohol and used this data to calculate the enthalpies. An initial linear trend was estimated, allowing prediction of pentanol's enthalpy. However, upon further analysis, the student identified an outlier in the butanol data and estimated a new trendline, reducing the experimental error. Areas for improvement were also noted.
