Use Several Sketches To Create The Clip Shown Below.: Working Directory

1. The document provides instructions for creating a 3D clip model using several features in multiple steps. It demonstrates how to create sketches with dimensions to define profiles, then use the sketches to extrude or cut features. 2. Key steps include creating a new part, sketching profiles on different planes, adding dimensions to constrain the sketches, using the sketches to extrude a protrusion and cut openings, and closing the part. 3. The instructions emphasize techniques like modifying dimensions without regenerating, selecting different depth directions, and provide examples of the sketches and features that should result from following the steps.

Use several sketches to create the clip shown below.

Working Directory: modeling

Figure 1

1. Create a new part using the Default Template.

Choose
Type clip_ plus your initials
Choose the OK
2. Choose the Extrude option to create the first feature.

Figure 2

Choose
Choose Placement
Choose the Define button
Select the Datum Plane named FRONT as the Sketch Plane
Choose the Sketch button
Choose the Close button in the References dialog
Turn off the display of the Datum Planes and the Coordinate System
3. Sketch the outline of the protrusion.

Choose
Sketch the lines as shown below

Figure 3

4. Now add the dimensions that you want to use to constrain the profile.

Choose
Create the dimension as shown below

Notice that the number of weak (gray) dimensions is decreasing as you add your own,
strong dimensions.

5. Change the dimension values.

This sketch shows the importance of changing dimensions without Regenerating. In more
complex sketches, changing one value without changing others, when regenerating, can
cause confusing results in the sketch. You are now going to use a method to change the
dimensions which suspends regeneration until all values are correct.

Choose
Select the dimension as shown below

Figure 8

The system displays the Modify Dimensions dialog.

Choose the Regenerate checkbox to remove the check

Figure 10

As long as the Regenerate option is unchecked and the dialog stays open, you can change
as many dimensions as you want and the sketch will not Regenerate. When you choose the
, the sketch Regenerates.

Select the two linear dimensions as shown below...remember, you need to hold down the
key to select the second dimension

Figure 12

Both of the dimensions are added to the Modify Dimensions dialog. At this point, the list of
dimensions is probably longer than the area used to display them in the dialog. When this
happens, a scroll bar appears...meaning you need to scroll down the list to see all your
dimensions. However, you can make the dialog taller which will remove the scroll bar.

When you choose the button, the system Regenerates the sketch using the values you
entered. Note that the sketch Regenerates with the origin (where the Horizontal and
Vertical References intersect) in the center of the graphics area. You can use Pan to move
the whole sketch into view.
6. Complete the feature.

Choose the Check Mark tool (

7. Display the Default Orientation.

8. Create the Cut as shown below. You are going to get fewer instructions to create this
feature since you should know how to perform most of the tasks involved by now.
