Question 1 Writing In A Certain Style

Select, analyse & evaluate what is relevant to specific
purpose.

Writing Objectives (5 marks)

Articulate experience and express what is thought, felt &


imagined.
Order and present facts, ideas and opinions.
Understand & use a range of appropriate vocabulary.
Use language & register to audience & context.

Other Notes on Question One

Write between 1 & 2 sides.


Things are broken down into bullet points.
Write five points for each of the three bullet points,
totalling in 15 marks.
Q1 contains description of person or place.
Effective use of paragraph & spelling.
If there is any detail use it.
Link directly back to the text.
Do not drift away from the text.
Use a highlighter.
Use cohesion.
For the full marks out of five for the writing you need
to show that you have structured your answer, sequenced
ideas, used a wide range of appropriate language, make it
realistic and authentic, be sensitive to the atmosphere,
and show appreciation for any feelings of any characters
in your response.
This means watching out for details and picking up on
clues in the passage you read.

Question 2 How The Writer Has Created Effects


Top Tips for Question 2

You are rewarded for identifying relevant material in the


passage and the development of ideas & use of supporting
detail.
Some ideas might be quite subtle and implied.
Chose a range of words & phrases that seem powerful to
you.
AVOID general comments such as creates a picture in
your mind, very descriptive phrase, writer makes you
feel like you are really there.
INSTEAD use phrases such as The reader would undoubtedly
feel a sense of , Reminiscent of , There is a
recurring sense of
Think of what the reader sees & feels.

Highlight (in a different colour from Q1) effective


words/phrases.
Read question 2a and carefully find the correct paragraph
in passage A.

Question 3 THE SUMMARY


Dos & Do Nots

DO group similar points together.


DO put similar points in paragraphs together.
DO use the text for the starting 15 bullet point.
DO use your own words when it comes to writing the summary.
DO always read the passage well.
Do use accurate spelling.
DO use paragraphs (see above).
DO use sentences/sentence structure.

DO NOT copy whole phrases/sentences form the passage.


DO NOT generalise.
DO NOT give your opinion.
DO NOT write a narrative.
DO NOT write in the first person.
DO NOT go over the limit of 200 250 words.
DO NOT over complicate points and repeat them.

Marks for Question 3

15 marks for content of answer (one mark per point).


5 marks for quality of writing.
