Swami Vivekananda's Vision and Mananeeya Eknathji's Mission

After successful completion of Swami Vivekananda's 150th

birth anniversary we are now fortunate enough to celebrate the
centenary birth anniversary celebration of Mananeeya
Eknathji, the celebration being named as Mananeeya Eknathji
Janma Shati Parva (MEJSP). We need to reach out to the
masses with the message of Swami Vivekananda's Vision and
Mananeeya Eknathji's Mission. We also need to identify all who
have the potential to serve the society with 'Shivabhave
Jeevaseva' attitude and Swamiji's youth who qualify the
parameters given by Him A hundred thousand men and
women fired with the zeal of holiness, with eternal faith in the
Lord, nerved to lions courage with their sympathy for the poor,
and the fallen and downtrodded with go over the length and the
breadth of the land preaching the gospel of help, the gospel of
social raising-up, the gospel of euqality''. It is a gigantic work.
And each worker has to gear himself up for the same.
In this work, the guidance that Mananeeya Eknathji had
given to the karyakartas during the construction of Vivekananda
Rock Memorial would be very useful. We need to establish wide
contacts with the people from all strata of society. How to have
a personal touch, appeal for the cause and clear direction as to
what is expected of a person, is to be learnt from over 22000
letters written by Mananeeya Eknathji.
About Eknathji's letter writing, Mananeeya
P. Parameswaranji - All India President of the Kendra - in the
Preface to 'Kendra Unfolds' writes :
Letter writing begins with Mananeeya Eknathji
accepting the responsibility of erecting the Vivekananda
Rock Memorial at Kanyakumari and ends, to put figuratively,
with his last breath. It runs parallel to the work which he
made his life's mission. It would be more appropriate to say
that the uninterrupted writing of letters was an integral part
of achieving the great work he had undertaken, as
important as any other activity. In fact, it was through letter
writing that he effectively played the role of man making
and nation building. The thousands of letters he wrote were
effective tools in his hands to mould workers, weapons to
fight the battle and lofty concepts to inspire people.
Mananeeya Eknathji maintained constant touch with all
those concerned with the work, conveyed to them the
necessary information, corrected and instructed them
whenever required, inspired them when their spirits were
drooped, reprimanded them when necessary and consoled
and counseled them at critical moments. His living presence
was felt by one and all on account of this forceful medium
written words.
While doing this work, sometimes some negative thoughts may
appear in the mind of a worker. Here are excerpts from two
letters of Mananeeya Eknathji which would be quite useful.
Mananeeya Eknathji in his letter to a karyakarta posted in
Calcutta dated 21.10.1963 from Delhi reprimands him when he

misses an opportunity to deliver the letter to the Honorable

Speaker, Sri S K Basu. Basu was to take up the matter about the
permission for Vivekananda Rock Memorial with Sri
Bhaktavatsalam, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Eknathji write
to him, As an organizer and a social worker you must always
remember one maxim, i.e. 'Opportunities are Duties'.
It seems a karyakarta who was looking into the affairs
related to Vivekananda Rock Memorial at Calcutta wanted to
leave the place. Mananeeya Eknathji in his letter to him dated
09.11.1963 writes in such a way that he would understand
what was that he was missing. The psychological treatment in
this letter is so appealing as well showing way to any body who
perhaps due to pressure of work, entertains such thoughts.
Mananeeya Eknathji writes :
"From your letter it appears that you suffer, at
present, from a sort of worklessness. It is a terrible
disease. It looks all the more alarming when there is work
on your left and on your right and even before your eyes.
The new assignment has opened up before you a hundred
avenues to fruitfully exploit your latent abilities and
employ all your potential energies.

He further writes :

If you begin to use your own initiative you will be

cured of this nasty disease. If the Rock Memorial idea has
enveloped your entire mind and heart then your legs will
know in what direction to move. Start thinking that it is
you who have to find out ways and means to advance the
work in that region so that the idea of the memorial
becomes an actuality in the immediate future. The least
that you can do is to stick to your post without wavering.
But that is evidently the least. I expect more far far more
from you. For rising equal to the expectations you have to
think about the statue memorial, talk about it to the
people, go about meeting useful people with that end in
view and even dream about it. Just waiting for some
Eknath or Charnath in expectant attention is not the job
you have been selected to perform.
Each worker should get infused with the thoughts of
Mananeeya Eknathji, His works, His vision and the Goal he had
kept in front of all of us needs to be thought of day and night. It
reminds us of what Swamiji said: ..Take up one idea. Make
that one idea your life think of it, dream of it, live on that idea.
Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full
of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the
way to success, and this is the way great spiritual giants are
produced.
In the days to come such work is expected from all of us.
Let us gird our lions and get ready to proclaim Bharatmata
Jagadguru and fulfill the Vision of Swami Vivekananda and
Mission of Mananeeya Eknathji.
