Lesson Plan One

This lesson plan focuses on kindergarten students practicing making letters and shapes using different materials over the course of a week. Each day, the teacher will work with a small group of students for 20 minutes helping them form letters and shapes using materials like paint, shaving cream, cotton balls, and sand. The goal is for students to become more familiar with the shapes and letters as they make them using different tactile materials. The teacher will assess students at the beginning and end of the week to track their progress in recognizing and forming various letters and shapes.

Lesson Summary:
Students will practice making letters & shapes. Each student will have different material that they can use to practice
making their letters and shapes. The purpose of this lesson is for students to become familiar with their shapes and
letters.
Estimated Duration:
Each day I will spend 20 minutes a day with each group of students go over our letters and shapes.

Commentary: I think using the different materials will be a challenge. The most challenging part of this lesson plan
will be using the paint and shaving cream.

Instructional Procedures:
This lesson will take an entire week to complete. Each day I will take a small group of students and we will work on
our letters and shapes. At the end of the week, we will go over what we work on and see what they remember and
we will talk about what they learn and if they had fun.
Day 1:
First 10 minutes: I will tell students what we will be doing and how we will use each material. 10 minutes: I will
show students how we will be using each material and how we will be doing it. The students will the begin working
on their shapes and letters.

The students and I will be learning about our letters and shapes so they can become more familiar with them.
Day 2:
I will be working with a new group of students and I will go over with them what we will be doing and them I will
show them then I will let them try it.
Day Three, Four :
Continue working with a new group of students
Day Five:
Go over what we did earlier in the week. Talk about the lesson plan and see what they learned and if they liked it.

Pre-Assessment:
I will ask each student what letters they know and if they know any shapes. Once I know what they know I will
figure out what letters and shapes we need to work on the most.
Scoring Guidelines:
I will use a check list for each student. If they make the letter or shape right they will get a check mark and if
they need to work on it I will make a note.
Post-Assessment:
I will ask the students what they learn and I will make note if they learned anything new during this lesson plan.
Scoring Guidelines:
They will just get a check if they understood the letters and numbers we worked on. If they didnt I will make a note
of it and continue to work on it

Differentiated Instructional Support

Describe how instruction can be differentiated (changed or altered) to meet the needs of gifted or accelerated
students: this could be a challenge for students because they could become frustrated, get distracted or just end up
doing something else. If this does happen I will step in and either help them or we could use a pencil and paper. t
Discuss additional activities you could do to meet the needs of students who might be struggling with the material:

Extension

This has lower case and upper case letters that the kids could go through and learn the difference between the two. It

also has shapes so they can practice working on their shapes.

Homework Options and Home Connections

I will give the students sheets that have letters and numbers on it so they can practice at home and also have help
from parents.

Interdisciplinary Connections
I would use the shapes part of this lesson plan for math. We could use the shapes for adding things together and
subtracting things
