O1: to listen to a Cd in order to note down as many names of the animals as they
can;
O2: to solve a crossword in order to discover the name of the animals from the
new lesson;
O3: to read the new text fluently;
O4: to answer some questions from the text;
O5: to build up sentences using Present Simple and Present Continuous;
O6: to solve a word puzzle test;

Skills : speaking, listening, writing


Methods : conversation, explanation, observation, analyses
and exercise.
Teaching aids : blackboard, notebook, textbook, drawings, worksheets
Time : 50 minutes

Stages and techniques


1. Warm-up(3-4 min.)
a) Informal conversation(1-2 min.)
Teacher tries to create a pleasant and comfortable atmosphere by means of routine conversation:
T: Hello children! How are you today?
T: Who is on duty today?
T: Who is absent?

b) Checking homework(2-3min.)
T: What was your homework for today?
S: We had ex. 5 /44 and 6 /45
T: I ask students to read the exercise;

Are there much/many eggs in the fridge?
Theres much/a lot of sugar in the cake?

2. Presentation
a) Lead-in (1-2 min.)
T: Where do you live? Do you live in a house or in a flat?
S: Say where they live.
T: Do you have a pet at home? What kind of pet do you have?
S: I have a cat/fish/dog/ a.s.o.
T: Do you take care of him?
S: Yes, I do.
T: So, you love animals.
T: How many types of animals do you know?
S: Domestic and wild animals
T: Where do the wild animals live?
S: Into the forest or at the zoo

b) Listening activity (pair work) (3-4 min.)


- Pre-listening
T: Now, you are going to hear some animal sounds. There are 12 sounds of domestic and wild
animals. Pay much attention to it because you will have to work in pairs to solve a task. You will
have to note down as many as you can recognize.
(The sounds are of a : bird, cat, chimpanzee, cow, elephant, geese, goat, lion, mosquito, snake,
seagulls, sheep)
- After- listening
T: I will ask students to tell me the correct names of the animals that theyve just heard.
T: Today, we will have a new lesson. It is about the animals at the zoo, we will complete a
crossword, we will listen to a song and we will answer some question related to it, we will read
the lesson and we will do some grammar exercises.
T: I will write the title of the lesson on the blackboard Zoo Food
S: Write the title of the lesson in their notebooks.

c) Writing activity (vocabulary practice) (4-5 min.)


T: Ill give the students to solve a crossword while listening to the song from the book
S: They solve the crossword and discover the names of some animals from the zoo: monkey,
giraffe, dolphin, seal, lizard, whale, hippo, and crocodile
T: Ill write the new words from the vocabulary at the blackboard, and their phonetic
pronunciation
T: Ask the students to read the words from the blackboard after I provide them a model for
reading
S: Read the words correctly

d) Listening and reading activity (7-8 min.)


T: I play the CD with the lesson and ask the students to pay attention to it
T: I read the lesson aloud
S: The students repeat the lesson after me, and then they read using roles
T: I ask students some questions from the text, for example:
Where are Larry and Lulu?
Whos the fish for?
What are the seals doing?
What is Chuckles doing?
What does Chuckles want for lunch?
S: answer the questions orally.

e) Listening and writing activity (9 -10min.)


T: I play the CD with the song from the beginning of the lesson
S: Listen the song and try to sing while listening
T Ill ask questions from the song in order to discover the rule of using Present Continuous:
What is the giraffe doing?
What is the monkey doing?
What is the dolphin doing?
What is the seal/lizard/whale/hippo/crocodile doing?
S: Answer the questions and write the answers on the blackboard:
The giraffe is eating from the tree.
The monkey is laughing.
The dolphin is swimming in the sea.
The seal is clapping.
The lizard is sitting in the sun.
The whale is having lots of fun.
The hippo is learning how to run.
The crocodile is crying.

f) Grammar Practice (3-4min.)


T: I use the board with information about Present Simple and Present Continuous and Ill explain
them the theory
T: Ill ask students to build up sentences with Present Simple and Present Continuous helping
them with some questions like:
What are you doing now?
What am I doing at the moment?
What do you do every day?
What do you always do?

f) Reinforcement (6-7min.)
T: Ill ask students to solve exercise 3 on page 49

S: Students write the answers on their notebooks.


T: Ill check their answers after a few minutes

3.Evaluation(4-5 min.)
T: Ill give students a word puzzle and they have to find the animals written at the bottom of the
page.
T: Ill make general and particular remarks to some students who were very active during the
class.

4.Homework(1 min.)
T: I will give the students to write 5 sentences using Present Simple and 5 sentences using
Present Continuous.
