Provide cut up pictures/photographs linked to special events which the children remember
(e.g. a school trip) They can piece back together again and name.
Provide some simple remembering games for the children to play.
Children can also answer simple questions which involve remembering aspects of their lives
(where they live, their birthday etc.)
Make available a range of simple story books. The children can look at these and then try to
recall key facts and characters.
In small groups make/complete simple jigsaws, linked to events/things we remember.

AT1(i): Beliefs, teachings and sources Recognise some religious stories
After reading/discussing Remembering Jesus at Mass, ask the children to identify the key
words, phrases and symbols which tell you it is a religious story.
Refer to Gods Story 2 (p.77) as a way of visualising what the children read and hear in
the story of The Last Supper ( as the story is read children can be encouraged to identify
any special words)
AT1 (ii): Celebration and ritual Recognise some religious signs and symbols and use some
religious words and phrases
Listening to Things to Remember, encourage the children to discuss some of the words
and verses.
Draw or paint a verse using the words of the song.
From the stories discussed draw simple pictures to represent certain signs, words and
phrases such as; blessing, Bread and wine, Communion etc.

Assume the role of one of the apostles at The Last Supper. How did you feel? What were
you thinking? What was most memorable?
Re-enact the story using Gods Story 2 to help visualise the event.
Hot-seat characters from The Last Supper, asking them how they felt and what they said
and done.

Listen and talk to one another about our own experiences and about memories which are
special to us.
Fill in simple thought bubbles with any pictures, symbols or words which help explain our

Role-play the extract on The Last Supper (p.210). Design questions/answers for those who

AT1 (ii): Celebration and ritual Use religious words and phrases to describe some religious
actions and symbols
Encourage the class to find religious words, signs and symbols within both The Last Supper
and Churchs Story 2 pp.38 -43 This is my body, This is my blood, Bread of Life.
Read and discuss The Eucharist (p.210) draw/paint some of the key words and symbols
within this passage.
Design a simple poster for some of the phrases such as; Do This In Memory Of Me.
AT1(iii): Social and moral practices and way of life Describe some ways in which religion is lived
out by believers
Discuss how we as believers live out the Last Supper in our words and actions.
Through picture, symbols and/or words the children can describe what happens during the
Eucharist.

Imagine you are a group of friends who shared the Last Supper with Jesus. Record how

Begin to explore and make links between the Eucharist and the Last Supper small groups
could record these findings through pictures, symbols or words.
Design a poster to illustrate the Eucharist and the Last Supper (e.g. Do This In Memory of
Me, One Bread, One Body)

Having read Do this in remembrance of me think about the meaning and message within
the story. Scan the text for clues and key words. What did the story make you think of?
Create a glossary of words and research their meaning, e.g. tradition, betrayed, memorial,
proclaiming.
In pairs, read and discuss Lukes account of the Last Supper and the Eucharistic Prayer.
Produce a simple guide or leaflet describing what happened at the Last Supper and
explaining the links to Mass and the Eucharist. (Churchs Story 3 pp.102/03)
AT1(ii): Celebration and ritual - Use religious terms to show an understanding of different liturgies
Using I am with you(p.298), children can produce a poster, guide, leaflet or PowerPoint
which describes what happens at the Eucharist and shows some understanding of its
meaning.(Eucharistic Prayer II p.304)
In groups create a simple glossary of terms with the meanings presented through text and
symbols disciples, consecrated, covenant, everlasting.

Using page 300, invite the children to write/draw a modern day version of Lukes story
explaining how we should act, in light of remembering the Last Supper
What can we do in our daily life to live out the memory of the Last Supper? Create a weekly
chart of ways in which we can show; care, sharing, sacrifice, love and joy.
Create brief scenarios for the children to debate and provide what you would do next in light
of what was said and remembered at the Last Supper.

Listen to a hymn such as One Bread, One Body. As you do, think about and share what

distinctive religious beliefs arise
Using the passages on page 298, children can begin to think about and link between the
belief in and practise of the Eucharist and that of relevant scripture references.
Produce a presentation outlining the key elements of the Eucharist with the appropriate
sections of the scripture reading. How can Christians learn from these and how might they
use them in their own lives. (Churchs Story 3 pp.102/03)
AT1(ii): Celebration and ritual Describe and explain the meaning and purpose of a variety of
forms of worship
Research, explore and make notes on the meaning and purpose of the Eucharistic Prayers.
Produce an information sheet/leaflet on the meaning and relevance of the prayers, signs,
gestures and symbols used during the celebration of the Eucharist.
AT1(iii): Social and moral practices and way of life Identify similarities and differences between
peoples responses to social and moral issues because of their beliefs.
In pairs, design and produce a PowerPoint presentation on a topical issue, exploring the
different reactions to it and suggesting reasons for the varied reaction. This may relate to
the topic of Memories and the Eucharist e.g. Do all have the freedom to celebrate the
Eucharist in our world today? If not, why not?
AT2(i): Engagement with own and others beliefs and values Explain what beliefs and values
inspire and influence me and others
Using the passage on page 300, prepare a piece of writing explaining why we as Christians
should live out this remembrance in our lives. Explain how we can achieve this in our daily
lives and maybe inspire others.
Study the different apostles accounts of the Last Supper (p.301). Draw up an account
(through pictures and/or text) which explains their accounts and how these could inspire
and influence us in our actions today.
AT2(ii): Engagement with questions of meaning and purpose Demonstrate how religious beliefs
and teaching give some explanation of the purpose and meaning of human life
With reference to the Eucharistic Prayer for Children II (page 304), study the text in pairs.
Identify the key areas of the prayer which help us and others understanding the meaning of
our lives as Christians the sacrifice Jesus made, sharing with his friends, Jesus died for
us, eternal life in your kingdom. ( Churchs Story 3 pp.102/03)
