fffIGHT arlow MP Robert Halfon has welcomed
the news that crime is falling across

England and Essex.
The latest crime statistics show that crime has fallen

by more than a fifth since the last election. Plus,
figures released by Essex Police show that crime
across the county fell in every month during the last
six months of 2014. This includes decreases in antisocial behaviour and violent crime.

Robert Halfon said, Crime and anti-social

behaviour are key concerns for residents in Harlow.
However, thanks to this Governments action plan
and the work of local police officers, crime is down
and Harlow is becoming an even safer place to live
and work in.
Overall, there are 2.4 million fewer crimes per year

than when the Conservative-led Government took
office in 2010. Just in the last year, there was a 9%
fall in household theft and a 15% drop in vehiclerelated theft.

have the resources they need to carry on
cutting crime and serving the public.
Since 2010, an estimated 4.5 million hours of police

time have been saved by cutting red tape. The
proportion of police officers working on the front line
in our neighbourhoods is also rising.
This investment includes money for the new College
of Policing and funding for the National Crime
Agency, which is leading the fight against serious and
organised crime.
There is also a 70 million fund to support the Police

when working alongside other emergency services.

This all comes at a time when many - including the

Labour Party - said that crime would go up.

for voting against Conservative proposals that would
have provided extra funding to tackle the problem.

However, the MP welcomed the announcement that

Harlow and Essex Council have finally applied for a
High Court injunction, aimed at preventing illegal
encampments from being set up.
Essex has one of the highest levels of domestic

violence in the UK and, over the past few years,
Robert has raised the issue in Parliament multiple
times.
He spent six months petitioning for a House of
Commons debate and asked Ministers to ensure that
all Police Officers are properly trained to identify and
approach domestic violence cases.

agreed to end part-night street lighting in
Harlow, if the District Council can cover the
100,000 cost.
Robert commented, The street lights going out
between 12am - 5am was a key concern for local
people and many felt unsafe in their
neighbourhoods.
Meanwhile, the Government has ring-fenced nearly

40 million for specialist local domestic violence
support services. They have also given the police the
power to disclose to an individual the details of their
partners past, if it includes a history of abuse.
I suggested that Harlow Council use part of their

switch the lights back on.
The Labour Harlow Council have since agreed to fund
the service, but via an increase in Council Tax.
Robert added, To hit local residents with another
Council Tax increase is the wrong way to do this.
People should not have to pay more because of
Labours failure to cut wasteful Council spending.
