Coordinate measuring Machine are powerful
metrological instruments
CMM enable us to locate point coordinate on
the three dimension structure at the same time
that they integrate both dimension and
orthogonal relation ships
63
Key points/Reminders/Sketch
Teaching Aids/Evaluation
When a computer is added to the CMM it
creates an instrument that can
automatically perform complex angles is
that can learn measurements routines to
compare how a piece conforms to its
specifications.
The greater the complexity of the piece the
greater the benefits from a CMM
CMM provides so many measurements are

The use of DROs are not limited to
manual equipment as CNC equipment can
usually be switched to manual operation
and in this case a form of DRO is simulated
on the Control Panel of a robotic machine.
Key points/Reminders/Sketch
Teaching Aids/Evaluation
This system is commonly fitted to
most machines in today's shops:
lathes, cylindrical grinders, milling
machines, surface grinders, boring
mills and other machine tools to allow
the operator to work faster and with
greater accuracy.

Back lash Measurement:1- Clean the teeth of driver and driven gears.
2- Mount both gears on driver and driven shaft sat
proper central distance.
3- Slightly rotate the driver gear.
4- Measure back lash between tooth profiles of
driver and driven gears using feeler gauge.
Application and Try out: Describe the other uses of feeler gauge
Safety Precautions / Care:
1. The tooth profile of gear should be clear from defects such as burs, pits etc.
2. Proper central distance should be maintained between shafts.
