The NEBOSH Technical Certificate in Oil and Gas Operational
Safety covers the principles of process safety management in

The Unit is a taught unit assessed by one two-hour written
examination. The written examination consists of ten shortanswer questions and one long-answer question. All questions
are compulsory. Candidate scripts are marked by external
examiners appointed by NEBOSH.

ABOUT THE TUTOR: Mr Peter Brookbank
MSc, CSP
Peter Brookbank is an independent consultant from Bristol, UK with a Masters
Degree (MSc) in Occupational Safety and Health from Bristol University, England
and the NEBOSH Post Graduate Diploma (Parts 1 & 2) as well as a Post Graduate
Certificate in Education.
Peter is a Member of the Occupational Safety and Health Consultants Register, a Qualified Further
Education Teacher and has been a Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and
Health (IOSH) since they achieved Chartered status. Prior to that he was a Registered Safety Practitioner.
Peter has been advising clients in the UK Manufacturing and Oil and Gas sector in one way or another for
the past 12 years on issues ranging from Behaviour Based Safety and Safety Management Systems as
well as Accident Management, Asbestos, Legionella, Machinery Guarding and compliance with European
Health and Safety Directives. Peter also liaises on behalf of clients with the Enforcing Authorities (HSE, EA
and Local Authority) should there be a visit from an Inspector or a problem in this area. Prior to working
as an independent consultant Peter worked for the Engineering Employers Federation (EEF) as Principal
Consultant and Lead Tutor and before that was a Regional QHSE Manager with Rolls-Royce Aerospace in
the Facilities and Services Management Sector.
Currently Peter is involved in delivering the NEBOSH International Technical Certificate in Oil and Gas
Operational Safety to clients both overseas and in the UK and over the past two years he has been
involved in the delivery of the NEBOSH International Diploma and the NEBOSH International Certificate
at the KPO Oil and Gas Extraction Facility in Aksay, Kazakhstan. As part of his consultancy portfolio Peter
assisted contractor organisations at the KPO site to achieve accreditation to OHSAS18001 and ISO14001.
