Vocabulary, Lesson 1A/EI2201

- Last name/ Surname: A name shared by all the members of a family.

- Nice to meet you/Nice to meet you too: Used when meeting a person for the first time,
expressing you are pleased to meet him/her.
- Fine: Very good.
- Room: A part of a building.
- Sorry?: Used in conversations when you need somebody to repeat what he/she has
said.
- Food: What people or animals eat.
- Drinks: Liquids people drink.
- Travel: The act of going to another place.
- Gate: A barrier like a door.
- Cents: Money.
- Road: A street.
- Chart: Some information in the form of diagrams lists or figures.
- Rhythm: A strong regular repeated pattern of sounds or movements.
- Role-play: A learning activity in which you behave in the way somebody else would
behave in a particular situation.
- To introduce: To tell somebody what your name is.
- Dad: Father (informal).
- Stress: Emphasis.
- To underline: To draw (make) a line under a word or sentence.
- Caf: Cafeteria.
- Blank: With nothing written, printed or recorded on it (empty).

- Country: An area of land that has or used to have its own government and laws.
- Language: The system of speech and writing that is used by people of a
particular country.
- Quiz: A test of knowledge.
- Again: One more time.
- Business: The activity of making, buying, selling or supplying goods or services
for money.

- Doll: A childs toy in the shape of a person, especially a baby.
- Cheese: A type of food made from milk, it is usually white or yellow in color.
- Sneakers: Tennis shoes.
- Glasses: Two lenses in a frame that rests on the nose and ears. Used to see
better or to protect their eyes from sunlight.
- People: The plural of person.
- Near: A short distance away.
- To match: To connect.
- Flag: A piece of fabric with a special colored design on it that maybe the symbol
of a particular country or organization.

- Box: A container.
- Capital letters: The letters of the form and size that are used at the beginning of
a sentence or a name. OPPOSITE: LOWER CASE LETTERS.

- Interview: A formal meeting at which somebody is asked questions to see if they
are suitable for a particular job.
- Form: An official document containing questions and spaces for answers.
- To spell: To say or write the letters of a word in the correct order.
- Address: Details of where somebody lives or works.
- Zip code: Post code ( A group of letters and/or numbers that are used as a part
of an address so that post/mail can be separated into groups and delivered more
quickly).
- Highlighted: Marked with a special coloured pen, to emphasize it or make it
easier to see.

- A light: The energy from a lamp.

- To put on: To dress yourself in (Opposite: To take off).

- Useful: Helpful, utilitarian.
- How far is it?: Used for asking for distance.
- Bag: A container.
- Downtown/City centre: In or towards the centre of a city.
- parking lot/ Car park: An area where people can leave their cars.
- Pair: Two people.
- To answer: To say, write or do as a reaction to a question.
- Wallet: Used for putting money and credit cards.
- Lipstick: Used for colouring the lips.
- File: A box or folder for putting papers.
- Watch: A type of small clock that you wear on your wrist.
- Word: A unit of language.
- Old: Having lived for a long time.

- Basic: Fundamental.
- Bird: A creature that is covered with feathers and has two wings and two legs. Most birds
can fly.
- Sometimes: Occasionally.
- Wine. An alcoholic drink made from the juice of grapes.
- Royal: Connected with or belonging to the king or queen of a country.
- Beef: Meat that comes from a cow.
