Comp - Roll Crusher & Sizer

1. Sizers use shear and tensile forces at a low speed to crush material, resulting in lower power consumption and wear than roll crushers. Sizers are also more compact, lighter, and easier to maintain. 2. Roll crushers use higher compressive forces at faster speeds, resulting in higher power usage, wear, and fines. They are much larger and harder to maintain or move. 3. Sizers can efficiently handle various materials, while roll crushers are not ideal for wet, sticky materials due to clogging risks. Sizers require less pre-screening and shorter feeders.

SIZERS

ROLL CRUSHERS

The material is crushed by shear and

tensile force being generated by high
torque at a low circumferential speed.
The peripheral tip speed is around 1.6
m/sec. Due to this specific power
consumption, wear rate & the fines
content in output are considerably lower
than with roll crusher. Estimated specific
power consumption is around 1.6 kwh/t.
Power cost for sizer is less than roll
crusher.

The material is crushed mainly by

compressive force with much higher
circumferential speed. The peripheral
speed is around 5.5 m/sec. Estimated
specific power consumption is around
3 kwh/t or more. Wear rate and fine
content in output is more than sizer.

Rolls are of less diameter and driven

directly by motor through gear box.
Hence, reversing of rolls in case of
jamming is much easier.

Rolls are of much bigger diameter.

Transmission from motor is through
fly wheel, v-belt & gear box. Reversal
of rolls in case of jamming is difficult.

Controlled cubical product size.

Slabs & big lumps of material can

pass through without being correctly
reduced in size.

Compact in size.
The total height of sizer is around 1 1.2
metre.

Very large in size.

The total height of equipment is about
3-4 metre high.

Little vibration due to self-containment of

breaking force.
No vibration isolators required

Vibration isolation is required because

of more vibration.

The weight of the machine is less

comparing the roll crushers.

The weight of the machine is almost

double to the sizer.

Ability to handle hard & soft, dry & wet

and sticky material efficiently through the
same machine.

Not ideal to use for wet and sticky

material as the risk of clogging is
high.

Easy for maintenance due to the compact

size of the sizer. It is possible to move
sizer on small wheel carriage to another
location for maintenance.

More work involvement for

maintenance because of its large size
and height. Difficult to move roll
crusher from its foundation.

No pre-screening is required. Fines will

pass through the sizer without further
degradation. Teeth being larger does prescreening automatically by agitating
lumps.

Teeth are much smaller and grips of

teeth is less. Grizzly is required for
the pre-screening of material.

10

Short length apron feeder is enough

which means minimised feeder drive size
and minimum length of hopper side
plates.

Extended length apron feeder is

required due to the large height of
machine which means the
requirement of higher feeder drive
size and increased length of hopper
side plates.

11

Nominal foundation due to less weight

and compact size enables savings on
civil/steel structures.

Heavy foundation due to large size

and breaking force requires more
expenses on civil/steel structures.

12

Sizer does not have auto tramp release

mechanism. It has under-speed sensing
device which trips the sizes in case of
any tamp. Tramp to be released manually
by roll reversing

Roll crusher has automatic tramp

release mechanism
