strengths of the petrol Jazz but with the added benefit

The Jazz Hybrid uses an Integrated Motor Assist (IMA)
hybrid system to combine an advanced electric motor
with a conventional petrol engine. The result is improved
fuel economy and low emissions.
So, whether youre accelerating, cruising or slowing to
a stop, the electric motor and battery pack maintain
a lively and efficient flow of power.

The Jazz Hybrid also comes as standard with

Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), which delivers
optimum fuel economy and ensures the most efficient
drive ratio is always selected. This means your Jazz

Maximum efficiency with every journey

The Jazz Hybrid is equipped with Ecological Drive
Assist system (Eco Assist). The system changes
the colour of the speedometer background
according to the efficiency of your drive, glowing
from blue to green depending on how you are
driving, with green being the most fuel efficient.
The flower emblem is designed to inform you of
your fuel economy levels. The more economically
you drive, the more trees will grow to show
your progress.

those inside and out. The protection of passengers
and pedestrians is paramount in the engineering
of the body structure, technology systems and
interior features.
The Jazz has been rated one of the safest cars in
Europe, according to the independent crash testing
results from Euro NCAP and has been awarded the
maximum 5 star rating.

01 ADVANCED COMPATIBILITY
ENGINEERING (ACE)
The Jazz has been designed with an innovative
frame structure engineered to reduce the
concentrated frontal force on occupants in front
end impacts. The Jazzs Advanced Compatibility
Engineering (ACE) design disperses and absorbs
crash energy over a larger area, enhancing the
preservation of the cabin space and improving
safety for all occupants. Additionally, ACE also
helps to reduce misalignment with vehicles of
different sizes; the design of the Jazzs structure
reduces impact forces acting upon other vehicles.

ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM (ABS)

ABS prevents the wheels from locking when the

brakes are applied in an emergency, reducing the
possibility of a skid on wet, icy or loose surfaces,
and enabling the driver to retain steering control.

CO2

Carbon dioxide is one of the exhaust gases believed

to be one of the causes of the Green House Effect.
Therefore, the lower the CO2 emissions, the better
it is for the environment.

ELECTRIC POWER STEERING (EPS)

An electric motor assists steering instead of hydraulics.

It runs off the battery, not engine, so helps to reduce
emissions and fuel consumption.

ELECTRONIC BRAKE-FORCE
DISTRIBUTION (EBD)
This works in tandem with ABS, analysing weight
distribution around the car and automatically
adjusting the braking force applied to the front and
rear wheels to help maintain directional stability.

FUEL CONSUMPTION

The figures for the fuel consumption and CO2

emissions are to give you an indication of the cars
performance. Following legislation by the VCA
(Vehicle Certification Agency), all car manufacturers
generate these statistics through the same industry
standard test. This allows comparison across all
manufacturers and models. The tests use a standard
version of the model and do not take into account
optional levels of equipment, such as different sized
wheels, tyres and other factors that can affect the
economy of the model. The test is on a rolling road
and there is no additional weight in the car other than
the driver (no passengers or cargo) and it does not
account for individual driving style, which can mean
a difference to the figures achievable in the real world.

Continuously Variable
Transmission (CVT)

Selects the best drive ratio to keep the engine in its

most efficient power range. This delivers the optimum
fuel economy and ensures that the most efficient
drive ratio is always selected. This promotes better
fuel economy, lower emissions and an exceptionally
smooth ride.

VEHICLE STABILITY ASSIST (VSA)

VSA helps keep the Jazz on course in adverse driving

conditions by detecting and correcting potential
understeer or oversteer. The system continually
monitors vehicle speed, throttle position, individual
wheel speeds, steering angle, lateral G-force and
yaw rate to detect when oversteer or understeer
is imminent. When necessary, VSA automatically
reduces the engines torque and uses the ABS
system to apply brakes to each wheel, as needed,
to help stabilise the vehicle. The response is so quick
that the instability may be corrected before the driver
even knows its occurring.

i-VTEC

The combination of VTEC and VTC for improved

engine performance, fuel economy and emissions.

VTC (VaRIABLE TIMING CONTROL)

Changes the timing angle of the intake side

camshaft relative to the crankshaft as engine speed
and load change. This way the cylinder filling with
air/fuel mixture is optimised for improved torque and
performance, with 90% of torque available at just
3,000 rpm.

VTEC (VARIABLE VALVE TIMING AND
LIFT ELECTRONIC CONTROL)
Varies the amount of valve lift and the duration of
valve opening during the intake stroke of each engine
cylinder. The effect is optimised combustion over
changing engine speeds, with the result of reduced
fuel consumption and emissions as well as increased
engine performance.

IMA

IMA stands for Integrated Motor Assist, which means

that an electric motor sits alongside the petrol engine
it supports. The Jazz uses an electric motor to assist
the petrol engine, ensuring fuel consumption and
emissions are kept to a minimum.
The system uses the petrol engine as the main
source of power to drive the car. The electric motor
combines with the engine to provide torque and
power during starts or accelerating, when engine fuel
consumption is usually high.

The biggest dreams often come in the smallest packages. Like ASIMO; our humanoid robot.
ASIMO is 130 cm tall and houses sophisticated technology that allows it to run and also
recognise and identify individuals in a 360 degree range. In future we believe ASIMO may
become another set of eyes, ears, hands or legs for people in need of extra help.

When the vehicle comes to a halt, the petrol engine

stops and the car runs only from the battery. This
means no petrol is being consumed and so there are
no emissions.
