ECE Experiment 7

This experiment aims to measure DC and AC voltages in linear operational amplifier (op-amp) circuits. Key circuits tested include the inverting amplifier, non-inverting amplifier, and unity gain follower. Calculations are performed to determine expected voltage gains based on resistor values and compared to measured gains using equipment like an oscilloscope and DMM. Procedures involve constructing circuits, applying input signals, measuring output voltages, and analyzing input/output waveforms. The conclusion will summarize results and compare calculated and measured voltage gains across the different op-amp configurations.

RESUME OF THEORY
The op-amp is a very high gain amplifier with inverting and non-inverting inputs. It can be used
to provide a much smaller but exact gain set by external resistors or to sum more than one input, each
having a desired voltage gain.
As an inverting amplifier the resistors are connected to the inverting inputs as shown in figure 7.1
with output voltage.

V o=( Ro / Ri )V i

(Equation 7.1)

Figure 7-1

A non-inverting amplifier is provided by the circuit of Figure 7.2 with output voltage given by:

V o=(1+ Ro / Ri )V i

(Equation 7.2)

Figure7-2
Connecting the output back to the inverting input as in Figure 7.3 provides a gain of exactly unity:

V o=V i

(Equation 7.3)

Figure 7-3
More than one input can be connected through separate resistors as shown in Fig. 7.4, with the output
voltage then
