Background:
K.Will is just a stage name; his real name is
Kim

Hyung Soo. He was born on December 30
1981
and his current age is 32. His current
careers are a vocal coach, dancer, composer,
actor,
balladeer and a radio DJ. K.will is a very
successful person with his current careers and
he
achieved those careers by being very
enthusiastic about music ever since he was
young. It
is said that when he was young, he would
often sing
with his mother while she plays the guitar to
accompany
him. Although his passion for music was strong,
his parents
had different ideas and wanted him to
focus
on something other than music. At the
time, K.will wanted to be a singer but his
parents advised him not to make it his primary
career so K.will decided to put singing as his
second priority. But all this pressure got to him and he quit his job to pursue his dream
job in the music industries. The first company that ever signed him was a Korean music
company called Big Hit Entertainment, despite the name, Big Hit Entertainment is a
second branch to a bigger company that is called JYP Entertainment. His first debut in his
history was on 2006 as a K-pop star, he wasnt known throughout the world yet until his
very first album, Left Heart was released on 2007. Not only did his album bring him
popularity but also his videos that include him singing Mariah Careys songs, Without
You, I Still Believe and My All brought even more attention to him and it gave him the
nickname Male Mariah. In the following years, K.will has released three albums with
success, those albums are Miss, Miss, Miss, The Third Album Part 1 and The Third
Album Part 2: Love Blossom. Not only did K.will release music, he also participated in
plays such as, Dropping the Tears on 2009, My Heart Beating on 2011, I Need You on
2012, Will in Fall on 2013 and finally One Fine Day this year. Other that plays, he has
also involved himself in Filmography, Soul Special was released on September 28 2009
and K.will played the role of Park Ju-ho.

Boyfriend, the girl group Sistar, the famous rapper Mad Clown and a Soloist/Rapper
Junggigo. Each has their own individual characteristics that make them so popular and
likable by the community and fans. K.will has a distinct and different characteristics
compared to the other idols. K.will is a Balladeer which indicates that his songs are easy
for the ear, heart touching, has a meaning and communicates and sympathizes with his
audience. Compared to Sistar and Mad Clown, K.will often has less camera time
compared to the other idols. This is because K.will wants to be known for his voice and in
most videos, he often appears in one or two scenes just to let his audience or new
members know what he looks like. K.will has less priority for image unlike Sistar where
they perform as a group and often show skin to attract male audiences. Although their
songs are good, they are mostly recognized by their videos and promoting of their bodies
in contrast to K.will, whereas he focuses on promoting his videos through his voice and
communicating to his audience in a way only K.will can achieve and less focus on his
image. Sistar and Boyfriend have a very similar way promoting their music and that is
through image representation and attraction through clothing, facial expressions, dance
moves, and looks. This is important in the music industry nowadays as most audience
would judge the artist through his looks but there are some exceptions. Boyfriend is a
boy band which means there is a lot of competition such as Big Bang and Exo. These
boy bands have more recognition and are very popular all around the world whereas
Boyfriend isnt. This is because of the fan base of each company; most Starship
Entertainment fans have focus on Sistar, K.will and Mad Clown where Big Bang is the
most popular boy band in their company and arguably the most well-known boy band
around the world. Groups often have concern about their image and their attraction
towards the opposite sex where they make use of the Male Gaze Theory but in contrast
to groups, it would be soloist because these idols mostly concern about their songs and
how their voice and message is portrayed to their fans. One of the Starship
Entertainment soloist that is equally famous to K.will would be the rapper Mad Clown.
These two idols are very similar because of their story/performance type of music videos
which include them either singing to the song or the song would have a story behind it

instead of just dancing which would be a groups specialty. K.wills USP is obviously his
voice because of his avoidance of appearing in his music videos and using his voice as a
way of communicating to his fans. His voice is a crispy relaxing type of voice which is

is very important in their social life and with K.wills

emphasize the feel of love throughout his music videos. What is interesting about K.will
and his distinct images related to him is that his name seems as if it is written by hand
and could even be his signature. K.will isnt much of an image focused idol therefore
there isnt much need for symbols that need to represent K.will. K.will is often dressed in
fashionable clothes as are all K-pop stars; this is a custom for most Koreans as they like
to look fashionable and attractive. The lighting in his videos are full of natural lighting,
this is because K.will wants to portray a happy and natural feel towards his audience.
The shots in his music videos are full of mid shots and close ups. This is to capture the
actors feelings and the background to fill in the missing parts of the video and to give
the audience some sort of excitement to whats going to happen next.

Codes and Conventions:

K.wills music video, Love Blossom is a song about Love and involves a rather funny feel
rather than a sad and emotional feel to the video. The music video takes part in an
amusement park and involves two main characters. The main character, the guy is a
bodyguard for some officials
and later on the officials go
on a ride and the main
character randomly shoots
the supervisor for the ride
and that leads to the death
of the officials. Then after he
killed the officials, a girl of
his dreams appears and he
falls in love with her. He
then takes her to have fun
around the amusement park
and the girl also proceeds to fall in love with him. The story ends with a happy ending
and that is one of K.wills traits, he has a way with his songs and his portrayal of it is
through his music videos.

K.wills music video, You Dont Know Love is a song about a breakup which eventually
leads to the couple going
crazy and missing each
other. They both
eventually makeup and
end happy. This song has
the same principle as
many other music videos
he has. The music video
starts off with them
texting each other and
that leads to them going
through their memories
and remembering how
happy they were together. They then go crazy over each other and they both decide to
go back to the place where they broke up and leave their memories behind. As they
approach the tree that they broke up at, they meet each other and they both admit that
they miss each other and they get back, very touching.

portrays a love between a female and a male when really; it is about a love

between two males. The main character is shown to have interest in the girl but
that is all an illusion. The camera focuses on the guy and the girl while the girl is
being
engaged to the guys one true love, another
guy.
This confuses the audience to whom the
guy is really interested in. Throughout the
whole music video, it is
trying to confuse the audience
on whether or not the guy is a
homo or not but in the end it
is revealed through the
use of camera focus for the
guy during the wedding.

Primary is very similar to Zion T and K.will and prefers jazz and upbeat
style of music. His music videos are mainly performance based and he
doesnt care much about his appearance. He talks about love as well in
his music videos and inspires many musicians in his style of music.
