Synchronization of MSEB With Generator

This document outlines the standard operating procedure for synchronizing a generator with the MSEB grid. It details the steps to physically check the switchyard, ensure circuit breakers and isolators are in the correct position, synchronize the generator voltage with the bus voltage, match generator and bus frequencies using the governor, and finally close the generator breaker to parallel the generator with the grid once the synchroscope indicates synchronization. The generator is then loaded gradually while maintaining power factor to full load capacity.

Synchronizing Procedure for CPP:

Physically check the condition of 220Kv switchyard.

Ensure that Generator circuit breaker in Bay-8 is in OFF condition.
Ensure that all Isolators in Bay 8 and Bay-6 are in closed
condition.
Ensure that earth switch in Bay-8 is in Open condition.
Switch ON Bay-6 circuit breaker.
Bus voltage will be available on running bus voltmeter on GCP.
Ensure that AVR is selected in Remote control.
Select AVR Auto channel from GCP
Ensure that PF/MVAR regulation is in OFF condition.
After achieving 5000 RPM of turbine switch ON the Field Breaker
from GCP.
The voltage will be built up automatically. Adjust the voltage by
AVR Raise/ Lower switch close to the Running bus voltage.
Select 52-G breaker from breaker selector switch on GCP.
Select check synchronizing mode from synchronizing selector
switch on GCP.
Switch ON the synchroscope.

Adjust the speed of the machine by giving Raise / Lower signal to
governor from GCP so that the pointer will rotate very slowly in
Clockwise direction (Fast Direction).
Once again check and remove voltage difference between Incoming
and Running Bus.
Switch over breaker closing switch to vertical position.
At 12 Oclock position of the pointer, the sycnhroscope will give
breaker close permissive and two bright lamps will glow.
If split phase RED indication on synchro check LED goes dark and
check synchronizing LED goes bright issue Breaker close command
immediately .
Check breaker close LED is glowing and increase the load on
Generator to 1.5Mw immediately at 0.97 PF.
Switch off all selector switches and synchronous scope.
Increase the load to 5Mw and maintain the PF between 0.96 to
0.97
At 5MW load changeover aux. Load from MECB I/C to UAT Incomer.
Switch over to Power factor control mode and observe the
operation for 5 Minutes closely.
Load the Unit gradually to Full Load.
