Student Council
Chair (2013 Onwards) and Grade Representative (2010-2012)
Elected chair by student body of 1400 after a hustings assembly
Led staff-student group in building a comfortable resting space on campus for school cleaners and
canteen staff
Oversaw a shift towards co-operative student behavior and increased collaboration amongst students of
different grades
Collected material for IGCSE and IB subjects to create internal revision website for students
o Accessed by 1012 unique visitors since May 2012 and 80% of visitors gave the website an overall
rating of 4/5 stars or higher
Implemented and organized student-run revision clinics for each grade level one month prior to their
exams
o 53 student tutors and 410 participants since April 2012 with 70% of participants rating clinics 8/10
or higher
Awarded 2012 UWCSEA Leadership Initiative Award for creating and monitoring Facebook groups for each
grade level
o Allowed for instant and easier communication regarding all student-related matters
Member of team that met with school transport coordinators to offer a 6:00 pm bus service from campus
to popular areas in Singapore from August 2013 so that students can take part in more activities
o Indicated as most desired change in survey undertaken at the beginning of the 2013 Student
Council Term
Acquired $30,000 in funding for a student run business enterprise on campus, wrote board-approved
policy document and recruited student cashiers and managers for The UWCSEA College Shop in January
2013
o Average monthly earnings of $5,000 as of August 2013
Led team that created The UWCSEA Radio in February 2013
o Thrice-weekly program broadcast on speakers at lunch time containing notices, student music, and
interviews
Created a photo-blog entitled Faces of UWC with aim to recognize every in High School in January 2012
o Reached over 10,000 unique visitors and currently features 882 out of 1400 High School students
Initiated and led monthly meetings with school caterers and brought 9 student desired items into menus
since 2011
Increased focus on school-wide ethical responsibility by requesting a switch to Fair Trade Coffee on
campus, organizing monthly Vegetarian Wednesdays to promote sustainability
Liaised with School Facilities Team to provide opportunities for students to work there part-time
o 102 High School students now on official Facilities payroll from 3 in April 2012

Kolkata Global Concern raises funds and awareness for the Voice of World School For the Blind in West
Bengal.

Raised SGD $52,000 through various fundraising activities and donations


Organized two annual Indian cultural nights which were the most successful events in the GCs 15 year
history
Money used to build a secure and comfortable hostel for female students and buy braille press
Braille printing press now used by organizations across the state including the West Bengal Government
(for election slips printed in Braille)
Re-painted the 5 story school building, cooked breakfast for 150 students every morning and coached the
cricket team during a week-long visit in March 2013

Initiative for Peace
Initiative for Peace is a school activity that aims to promote international understanding and reconciliation in
areas of conflict.
One of 12 selected (out of 80 applicants) to facilitate a summer conference focusing on reconciliation
between Tamil and Sinhalese youth in post-civil war Sri Lanka

School Debate
Placed in Top 5 Speakers at 6 National Tournaments, 3 at Open Level (competed against university
teams) as member of Senior Representative team
Ranked as 9th best debater in Singapore as of National Intercollegiate Debating Championships, June
2013
Coordinator of High School Debate (January 2013 Onwards)
Formalized structure of sessions to focus on development of talent with minute-by minute session plans
and bi-weekly mock debates
Created internal website to host videos, chart progress and offer opportunity for individual feedback
First team trained under new system had 2 members finish amongst top 20 speakers in national 16&U
tournament
Assisted in coaching 14 &U team to first ever victory in National Age Level tournament (2013)

SERVICE & ADVENTURE PROJECTS

Riandira, Kenya
Spent two weeks building classrooms for the students of the Riandira Primary School and donated
furniture that allowed school to enroll 120 more students
100% of children in Riandira registered for national exams in 2013 for the first time due to access to
schooling
Chosen out of 30 person applicant pool to represent UWCSEA on this Round Square Service Trip with
participants from 25 different international schools
June 2011
Ladakh,
India
Spent 3 weeks camping and trekking 150 km in the Himalayas with UWCSEA High School students
Planted trees to offset carbon emissions caused by school expeditions of High School students in 2010

Singapore
Led team organizing fundraising activities across including appeals for donations, daily bake sales for one
week and weekend Backyard Sale for victims of worst floods in Indian state of Bihar since 1977
o $27,500 raised and used to obtain emergency medication, comfortable tents for displaced persons,
supply of clothing and adequate supply of food for a 3,000 person camp supported by an NGO
named Goonj
