    Exploring Japanese Culture (Bushido)

    Question 1
    During World War II, some Japanese pilots, called kamikaze, deliberately
    crashed their planes into enemy battleships. In other cases, Japanese
    soldiers fought fanatically to the death rather than surrender. Discuss
    relationship between these actions and Bushido.
    The relationships between those actions are the loyalty to their lord,
    the spirit to make sure their lord secure and honor. Its same with Bushido
    because same with two elements important in Bushido are loyalty to lord and
    honor. For an example of loyalty, kamikaze and Japanese soldier willing to die
    for their lord. This was same with notion of Bushido, loyalty. Samurai very
    loyalty to their lord and make sure their lord safe. Moreover, kamikaze and
    Japanese soldier can get honor from those action because they willing die to
    make sure their lord secure. Because of that, kamikaze and Japanese soldier
    rather die because honor is important to people. This relate to Bushido
    concept, samurai willing to do something such as sacrificed their life to get
    honor and make sure their family also get honor. Those actions have related
    to Bushido notion.

    Question 1
    Do you think that Bushido is different from chivalry in the West? If so, what
    are the differences between the two?
    I think Bushido is different from chivalry in the west. This is because it
    has different between Bushido and chivalry. The differences between Bushido
    and chivalry are their notion and the way to practice also different. Firstly,
    the different between the two are notion. Bushido is the way of samurai that
    means the notion are related to spirit of samurai in organize something in
    live such as spirit in to do something like Japanese soldier willing to die.
    Moreover, Bushido related to Zen Buddhism and emphasize about loyalty to
    one lord and honor. But, chivalry is related to Christian virtue and emphasize
    honor only. Besides that, chivalry is moral system for people. So, that why
    Bushido and chivalry are different.

    Exploring Japanese Culture (Giri)


    Question 3
    In japan, if you receive a present from a colleague but do not send one in
    return, you will be regarded as being ignorant of social obligation. Why do
    you think this is? How do you feel about this custom?
    I feel regarded as being ignorant of social obligation if I do not send
    one in return after I get a present from a colleague. This is because I feel like
    I am not appreciating my colleague. Besides that, I feel like I am so selfish
    and do not have a good manner as human or friend. I am so interesting and
    happy about this custom. This is because I feel I be valued and loved as
    colleague. Moreover, I feel this custom such as good culture because it help
    people to loving, respect and appreciate each other. This is will help the
    relationship become long lasting. Besides that, this custom help people, who
    do not know how to express their feeling by communicate. This is because
    sometimes people shy to show their feeling by words so this custom help a
    lot. So I think this custom so good to applied.

    Question 2
    It is not uncommon for people from other countries living in Japan to neglect
    their Giri-related obligations. What do you think about this kind of omission?
    I think it is not uncommon for people from other countries living in
    Japan to neglect their Giri-related obligations because they do not know
    about this culture. Besides that, people from other countries think that Giri
    only for Japanese to apply not for them. Moreover, people from other
    countries do not think that Giri is obligations. So, that why people from other
    countries neglect their Giri-related obligations. However, people from other
    countries are living in Japan needs to apply this Giri. This is because we need
    to respect other culture and we should follow if the culture good and do not

    give negative effect in their live. Besides that, if we are live in other country
    we need to understand their culture and the way of living in that country.
