MONTAGE
Description:
Create a spiritual montage using at least two images. The im-
ages must be blended using layer masks so there are no hard
edges. The montage needs to be at least 1650X1275.
Date:
October 2014
Course/Instructor:
Visual Media/Ben Pingel
Program:
Adobe Photoshop
Objectives:
To send the message that Christ is the way, and that it is never
too late to choose His way.
Process:
I started by figuring out the message. I wanted to portray that
Christ was the way. Then I found an image of Christ, and an
image of a pathway. I then found the quote from President Ucht-
dorf. Then I went to work putting together the montage. I placed
the path as the background image. Then I placed the entire im-
age of Christ over the top of the image. I sized it down to fit right
at the end of the path. Then I used a layer mask to eliminate
the parts of the picture I didn’t want. Then I softened the edges
by decreasing opacity and using a soft brush. Once the images
were in place I put my text on the image to follow the path.
To those who have left the path
of discipleship for whatever reason, I
invite you to start where you are...Walk
It is never
too late.

LOGOS
Description:
Design three different variations of a logo for a company.
Date:
November 2014
Course/Instructor:
Visual Media/Ben Pingel
Program:
Adobe Illustrator
Objectives:
Provide business owner with logos they are both pleased with
and appeal to their customer base.
Process:
I started the process by sketching out various designs. Then I
created them using the pen tool and the white selection arrow
in Illustrator. Once the images were created I went to work
finding fonts that would go well with the design. Finally I went
to work to pick color schemes. After the initial designs were
complete I asked a variety of individuals what they thought of
the designs, then went back and adapted the logos based on
feedback. The most interesting part came when I went back to
the individuals with the final draft and asked which version they
liked best. I was surprised at how many people changed from
their initial response.
LETTERHEAD
Description:
Design letterhead for an individual working at a company.
Date:
November 2014
Course/Instructor:
Visual Media/Ben Pingel
Programs:
Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Indesign
Objectives:
Provide a simple, interesting design to enhance the brand of
Peanut Party Planning.
Process:
The process was interesting and fun. I began by creating the
logo and icons in Adobe illustrator. Once they were created I
moved over to Adobe Indesign to create the stationery. I used a
bold cold scheme that would appeal to parents. I kept it simple
because of the dominant color scheme. The watermark was
may favorite part because of the quirkiness and fun it provided
to the design.
BUSINESS CARD
Description:
Create a business card to coordinate with the letterhead.
Date:
November 2014
Course/Instructor:
Visual Media/Ben Pingel
Programs:
Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Indesign
Objectives:
Create clear simple design to promote company and create
interest in services provided.
Process:
I began by creating the logo in illustrator. With the logo created
I went to indesign and designed the business card and inserted
the logo into the design.
BROCHURE
Description:
Create a full color, folding brochure to promote a company or
product.
Date:
December 2014
Course/Instructor:
Visual Media/Ben Pingel
Programs:
Adobe Indesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop
Objectives:
Promote quality lessons to parents looking for way to prepare
their children for school.
Process:
I started by sketching thumbnails of the designs I wanted to
use with paper and pencil. After I had an idea I turned to the
computer. I used indesign to create a grid and created my rough
draft of the brochure from the thumbnails I had created. Once
I had a rough design I turned to Illustrator to design my logo. I
used the pen tool, type tool, and pathfinder tools in illustrator
to create the logo for my brochure. Then I placed the required
images into indesign.
After receiving critiques I decided to change my design quite
drastically. I decided to use a chalkboard background. I elim-
inated the background of an image and brought it back into
indesign. For this project I ended up using Illustrator, Indesign
and Photoshop to create my brochure.

Date:
October 2014
Course/Instructor:
Visual Media/Ben Pingel
Program:
Adobe Indesign
Objectives:
Create a design that appeals to graduating seniors. Create in-
terested and move them to action.
Process:
I started by gathering the information needed and examined
what the company was trying to promote. Then I sketched out
multiple designs that could be used. Then I went to InDesign
where I made two different drafts to be critiqued. Once the
drafts were done I had multiple individuals review the designs
to share what was strong and what could be improved. I edited
the design to included the suggestions and printed the flier.

EVENT AD
Description:
We were asked to create an event ad using only an image
scanned into our computer and Microsoft Word.
Date:
October 2014
Course/Instructor:
Visual Media/Ben Pingel
Program:
Microsoft Word
Objectives:
The goal was to show that we could create a pleasing design
without access to a design program.
Process:
I started by figuring out what type of event I wanted to advertise.
Then I had to go to work to find an image that would promote
the event. I learned that it is extremely difficult to scan an image
from a magazine because it scans in the texture from the mag-
azine and makes it look somewhat blurry. I finally went to work
in Word an put together a pleasing advertisement. I took the ad
and got it critiqued from multiple sources. Then went back and
revised based on the critique that was received. Finally, I print-
ed the advertisement.
WEB PAGE
Description:
Create a webpage to showcase a logo created this semester.
Date:
November 2014
Course/Instructor:
Visual Media/Ben Pingel
Program:
Text Wrangler, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator
Objectives:
Provide website that enhances the color schem of previously
designed logo, and showcase the process of designing the logo.
Process:
First I created an html document and put all of the pertinent
information into that document. Then I used the CSS document
that was provided as a basis to manipulate the way the web-
page looked. I linked the CSS and HTML documents to create
the webpage.
Once the documents were linked I opened my png logo in Pho-
toshop to figure out the hex colors to be able to provide an ap-
propriate color scheme to webpage. Then I had multiple people
look at the design and critique the webpage. From there I took
the critiques and made more adjustments to the webpage.
IMAGING
Description:
Shoot, edit and display a photograph using a color scheme.
Date:
October 2014
Course/Instructor:
Visual Media/Ben Pingel
Program:
Adobe Photoshop
Objectives:
Create a PSD that showcases a photograph.
Process:
I started by looking over the different color schemes in the
FOCUS book. Then I decided to take a walk outside and look for
the different schemes. It was incredible to me how many differ-
ent schemes were so easily found in my very own backyard. We
have a flower bush, a small stream and lots of trees all along
our property line. I was mesmerized by one particular tree that
had these round balls falling from it. I immediately noticed a
split complimentary scheme and decided to take photos. I took
pictures of the tree, the balls hanging from it and many that had
fallen all around it. I then went to photoshop where I edited the
photo I decided on then created a poster all within photoshop.
I decided to focus on circles because of the shape of the image
I shot. I found it difficult to work with text within photoshop and
have decided to spend more time improving my skills there.
Overall, it was great to start with a color scheme and use it.
