Research into similar music magazines on which you could base my own magazine on.

Rap:
+ There is a variety of ways the genre could be portrayed in a front cover, such as having a
layout/colour scheme that shows the genre clearly.
+ Rap has connotations of freedom meaning I would have a lot of freedom when designing the front
cover.
- Personally I have limited knowledge on rap music so it will be difficult for me to interpret this into
my own magazine
- The freedom could make the magazine look messy and unprofessional.
- Theyre not very common.
- It does not appeal to the mass audience.
Pop
+ I have personal knowledge on pop music easier to incorporate this into the magazine cover.
+ Large readership; pop music magazines have a large target audience and are appealing to a range
of people mainly teenage girls.
- The pop genre is constantly changing and has many artists in the industry regularly.
- People are influenced by the pop industry in many ways and depending that is featured on the
magazine, depends who buys the issue.
- Pop magazines usually target white, female teenagers who have a keen interest in boy bands, and
young female singers.
Alternative/Indie/Rock
+ This sub-genre targets a large variety of people, allowing the magazine to be shown to a large
amount of people.
+ I have an interest in this subgenre; therefore it would be easier to make a magazine on it as I
understand what would possibly interest the audience.
+
- Rock/Alternative is a mainly band orientated genre and currently I do not know of any people in
bands that I could use for my magazine cover and contents page.
Other People opinions:
Frankie, 17: Rock Most her friends listen to that genre and she knows people who look like Rock
stars. She knows more about that genre and has a keen interest in it.

Lauren, 17: Rock Its different and there are not that many magazines from this genre being
published.
Khazim, 17: Rock Its an interesting genre, and Ive loved it for a long time and I want to read a new
magazine for that genre.
My genre is equally popular with a few other people as quite a few people are doing a magazine
with a rock/alternative sub-genre. This is because although generally Rock music does not appeal to
the wider audience, of the people Ive asked they are within the audience that do actually listen to
rock music.
