Dear Student,
Aslam-u-Alaikum
Welcome to the Faculty of Education University of Sindh. The Faculty of the University you have
chosen to pursue your studies has geared up all its resources to equip you with knowledge and skills
necessary to face the challenges of the new century. The Degree programs offered in the discipline of
Education have been updated recently and new subjects have been introduced.
You would be glad to learn that virtually all fields of the subject of Education under the Faculty of
Education offer Bachelor and Masters programs, specialization in bringing them at par with the
international standards. Besides providing broad-base sound education, the change would enhance
credibility and acceptability of our degrees in the international job market. At home the Revised
Curriculum of Education of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) has been adopted and
implemented with some modifications.
The Evening shift programs introduced by the Faculty of Education have attracted a large number of
students particularly those who are keen on career advancement while in service. This initiative will
help, promote Education and train much needed manpower in this most promising job related
discipline.
The advent of Information Technology has resulted in internationalization of higher education with
learning acquiring a global aspect. The University has taken all necessary steps to provide you
access to Internet at negligible cost so that you may augment your learning through this globalized
higher education network. It is now up to you to make full use of the opportunities offered and equip
yourself to face the challenges ahead, and to make yourself useful to the community and help create
society that is progressive, tolerant, pluralistic, prosperous and just and that values ethics, human
dignity & spirit of enquiry.

education filed, since its inception. Our special focus is on providing the skills needed to face the
challenges of a complex and often challenging national as well as international environment.
Members of our Faculty has established an impressive reputation for their ability to develop the
whole person moving beyond cognitive knowledge to deal with patterns of behavior and attitudes of
genuine integrity, combining a pragmatic and carefully designed curriculum with students and
Faculty relationship that emphasize peer learning.
We also have discovered that personal fulfillment and quality of life inevitable are directly related to
increasing efficiency and productivity. Our strategy places a heavy entrepreneurial focus on

FACULTY OF EDUCATION
The University of Sindh since its inception has given the teacher education high priority and has
been committed to producing quality teachers and other professionals to help meet the staffing needs
of public and private urban and rural schools. The teacher education programs are extended to both
in service and pre-service needs.
The Department of Education started as the first teaching department of the university in 1951-52. It
was raised to the status of Institute of education in 1962, and the Institute of Education and
Research in 1967 and then to the Faculty of Education in 1987, having four full fledged
departments. Later on a new department for distance education, which was subsequently changed
into the Non Formal & Distance Education Center was added to it. Another department for special
education was made part of this Faculty, also. The Faculty has its own laboratory schools at Elsa
Kazi Campus Hyderabad and Allama I.I. Kazi campus Jamshoron, named as Dr. N.A Balouch Model
School and Syed Pannah Ali Shah Model School respectively. It has provided thousands of trained
graduate teachers to the nation and its product delivers not only in Sindh but in other parts of
Pakistan and rest of the world also. The programs offered by this Faculty are basically of two types:
the Regular and Off-Campus. Both type of programs provide parallel opportunity to opt for
graduation in education. Program offered under these modes include, B.Ed., while On-campus
programs in addition to this also offer M.Ed., M.A., Education, M.Phil., Ph.D and Diploma in
Education as well. To conduct the graduate and other programs reflecting the demands of the time,
component departments of the Faculty have been enthused with new sprit and fresh commitment
from this session.

While together these departments provide a broad base of general teacher education at Bachelor
level, they offer opportunity at Masters level for specialization in any one discipline and help attain
Masters degree in the art and science of teaching.
The Faculty also conducts in-service workshops, seminars, extension lectures and many short
courses for different levels of teaching and topics of National Educational Interest as per demand of
the situation on different occasions. Also the Faculty plans to exchange visiting faculties with other
universities and institutions of the country to enrich the knowledge and mature the experience of her
teaching faculties.

DEPARTMENTS OF THE FACULTY


1.

DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGICAL TESTING, GUIDANCE AND RESEARCH

The department was created as an independent teaching department of the University of Sindh
following the re-organization of the Institute of Education and Research into a full fledged Faculty
on July 1, 1987. This department was created to provide guidance and leadership role to the
inquisitive researchers; guidance to the counselors in the areas of educational research. The
department offers courses and program both at the graduate and the postgraduate levels. The
department, to its credit, completed a number of Research studies at the national and the
international level.
The department deals with two important areas of modern education namely (i) Educational and
Psychological testing and (ii) Guidance and Counseling. With the purpose of training our students to
be school counselors, the Department offers course and conducts research programs related to
educational psychology, guidance, testing and measurement; provides services for individuals and
organizations that need assistance in guidance and counseling; planning to offer in-service training
programs in counseling for elementary and secondary school teachers; and supervises guidance and
counseling programs in educational and industrial organizations nationwide. Courses offered by the
Department include theory and application of educational psychology, counseling, testing,
measurement and statistics.
2.

DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATIONAL MANAGEMENT AND SUPERVISION

The department came into existence on July, 1987 under the name Educational Administration and
Instructional Technology; it has been renamed and reorganized thereafter as above. This department
aims at imparting knowledge about the present set-up and emerging patterns of educational
management and supervision in Pakistan and abroad. It derives effective techniques and methods of
teaching in various subjects and studies adequacy and appropriateness of teaching aids at the
elementary and secondary school level in the subjects of social sciences, arts, and languages. It
prepares suitable material with locally available resources and introduces techniques required for
effective teaching and learning at various levels. It also tests the utility of the new management and
supervision techniques for the school system of Pakistan.

DEPARTMENT OF SCIENCE AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION

The Department of Science and Technical Education was established in 1987 along with other
departments. The department is concerned with promoting the interest of students teachers and
society in science and science education. This department evaluates the adequacy of school science
routinezed teaching methods and local resources. It prepares the trainees to develop instructional
material and laboratory materials from the low cost/ no cost indigenous materials in line with the
local exigencies and needs. The department promotes scientific inquiry and skills among the trainees
to prepare the nation for the future to emerge as a nation on the world map having scientific mind to
compete in the field of science and technology among themselves as well as with the world at large.

DEPARTMENT OF CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT AND SPECIAL EDUCATION

The department was created as an independent teaching department of the university following
reorganization of the then institute of education and research into Faculty in 1987 under the name of
Foundations of Education & Curriculum Development. Subsequently it was reshaped and named as
above in 2003. This was the first teaching department of curriculum created in any university of
Pakistan to deal with this most important area of education. The main focus of the department is on
the philosophical, psychological, social and historical foundations of the national system of
education to prepare trained and qualified teachers imbibed with the ideology of Pakistan and
commitment to the profession.
Department contributes in the uplift of special Education at National and provincial level, also.
It offers specialization in special education at B.Ed level and intends to extend this specialization at
M.Ed. level in near future.

DEPARTMENT OF DISTANCE, CONTINUING AND COMPUTER EDUCATION.


(DCCE)

This is the latest addition among the departments of the Faculty of Education. As this is the era of
Information Technology, Computer and Internet, therefore, to propagate know-how of all these
modern sources of knowledge among the nation builders (teachers), this new department has been
created by reshaping the already existing facilities and by adding new air-conditioned lab in it in
2003. The functions of this department in addition to teaching in regular programs would be to chalk
out short summer vacation courses, workshops and seminars on different aspects of education round
the year.

DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

Faculty of Education Elsa Kazi Campus, University of Sindh has introduced a dynamic Honours
program in Education. Conceived in the context of the needs of education in country as whole and
province of Sindh in particular, it aims at providing skilled manpower fully competent in modern
knowledge of education along with English and Computer as compulsory subjects to improve the
standard of education. The program will help to produce real, fully committed, meditative and
intelligent not only the teachers but also the administrators and educations in the country.
B.A. (Hons) is a four-year Degree Program and Equivalent to B.Ed. Admission to this program is
open on the basis of F.A/F.Sc. Admission to this programs is usually Advertised in the month of
November while the classes commence in January at the Elsa Kazi Campus Hyderabad. As such B.A
Education (Hons/Pass) programs run by the faculty in morning in addition to B.Ed programs of the
faculty.

Note:
1. The candidates who will seek Admission out side the Jurisdiction of the University of Sindh will have
to pay extra charges for Eligibility, Enrolment fee and Migration fee as per rules of the University of
Sindh.
2. The Students who are residing in Marui Hostel will have to pay Rs. 1375/- extra charges as a Bus
fare.
3. The regular semester examinations fees will be charged as per rules per semester separately.

(B)

HOSTEL FACILITIES

The University provides residential facility to students of the Faculty in its various Hostels
both at Allama I.I. Kazi and Elsa Kazi Campuses. The provosts with their staff are always available
to provide accommodation in the Hostels and to guide the students properly. There are eight hostels
of the University out of which one Hostel is at walking distance from the Faculty of Education (for
the boys of the Faculty only) and girls and the teachers of the Faculty are provided accommodation
in hostels at the Allama I.I Kazi campus Jamshoro.
(C)

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

The University of Sindh grants limited freeships and bursaries to the deserving students on Povertycum-Merit basis. Scholarships are also awarded by the District Councils, Directorate of College
Education in Sindh and by other agencies. The Pakistan Banking Council also provides Qarz-eHasna to deserving students under the Qarz-e-Hasna Scheme.

LIBRARY FACILITIES

There are two Libraries named as Learning Resource Information Centre and Dr. A.R.N Mughal
Library in the Faculty of Education. LRIC issues books for daily reference and the later issues the
books to students for full semester on membership.
The University has well stocked reference Library named Allama I.I. Kazi Central Library at
Jamshoro. Beside this, the Research/ Reference Library of the Institute of Sindhology and Pakistan
Study Centre are also accessible to research students.

Students are advised to select any two subjects one from the list of group A, and the other from
group B.
Note: The Students with Graduation in science will opt from the subjects relevant to their degree and
students who have F.Sc with pre-engineering will opt combination of General Math and General
science only. However special education is open to every one. More over, on the basis of Masters
degree students with graduation in science may also opt combination related with their Masters
Degree.

Internship 200 marks

ED-534. Internship. This part consists on 30 lessons and it is bifurcated equally between the two
subjects of specialization. Each student-teacher will go on internship in the field and practice
teaching by delivering 14 lessons in each subject under the guidance and supervision of high school/
college teacher appointed by the concerned head of the department. At the end of this phase each
student-teacher will deliver ONE criticism lesson in each subject of his/ her specialization in the
simulated class. In addition to this each student-teacher will observe 10 lessons of any other
students-teacher and will maintain the observation diaries. Apart of this prospective teachers will
observe school environment and work with the principal and other teaching staff in the following
areas:

Pedagogical Skills
Classroom Management
Assembly Management
School Discipline
Organization of Co-curriculum activities
Construction of time table

School record keeping


Arrangement of teacher parent meetings
Social interaction Including teacher parent association
Examination and Assessment process
Maintenance of Accounts/ Office procedures.

During this period each prospective teacher has to maintain attendance in the office of the principal
of collaborative school / college. By the end of this program each student-teacher has to submit
his /her portfolio to their concerned method teachers at Faculty of Education. After going through the
above part student-teacher will be allowed to deliver his/ her Annual Final Lessons, one from each
part of their specialization.

Fieldwork 200 Marks (06 C.H) Second Semester

Research Thesis
Students are required to work on a research thesis and submit it by the end of the 2 nd
semester. They also have to appear for Viva-Voce Examination and defense their
thesis.

Fieldwork
Fieldwork consists on the Application of field of Specialization. This is a practical
course based on the application of the field of specialization offered by the each
department. Each student has to go through that practical work under the supervision
of his / her teacher. At the end of the practical work a committee of three senior
faculty member including chairperson/ incharge of the department will jointly
evaluate the students for their conduct and product during the filed work.

The Dean shall notify the last date for receiving the application forms for admission to the
B.Ed; M.Ed. & M.A. in Education (Previous and final).
The candidate who desires to take admission in a University class must be a National of
Pakistan. The foreign nationals will be considered for admission only when nominated /
recommended by the Ministry of Education / Ministry of Finance & Economic Affairs
Economic Affairs Division, Government of Pakistan
The Vice chancellor may refuse admission to any candidate to the University class(es)
without assigning any reason.
All the admissions shall be provisional until approved by the Vice-Chancellor.
No student shall at one time join or continue on roll of the Two University Teaching
Institutes/Departments / Centres/ Affiliated Colleges or in the University or Affiliated college
for two courses of study in the same or different Faculties.
The student shall attend the class regularly to the satisfaction of his/her teachers.
The student shall do al the necessary written work, tutorials and seminars as directed by
his/her teacher (s) to his/her/their satisfaction.
The student shall maintain discipline and good moral character.
The student shall do nothing, either in or outside the University, that may interfere with the
orderly administration and discipline or may bring the University and its administration to
disrepute.
A regular student is required to keep at last 75% of attendance for eligibility to appear at the
examination.
A student who shows indifference to his/her studies by continued absence from lecturer,
practical, test or assignments shall be liable to have his/her name struck off the rolls of the
university.
No student shall be re-admitted without the prior permission of the Vice-Chancellor in case
his/her admission is cancelled due to any reason.
No ex-student shall be given access to the facilities of using the library, Laboratories,
Seminars etc. without the prior permission of the Dean.
Each student admitted to B.Ed / M.Ed/M.A (Education) class shall obtain Identity Card in the
prescribed from on the payment of necessary fee.
If an Identity Card is lost or destroyed, a duplicate copy be obtained immediately after such
an event on payment of the fee.
