J ames Pu ra
!
Welcome to the hub of entrepreneurial space
activity. Space is awe-inspiring, exhilarating, thrilling,
and inspirational... Whatever word you use to
describe it, you know it, I know it, and thats why
youre here. Over the next three days, you will find
the current and future leaders of the space industry,
with stars in their eyes and wills of steel. Men and
women who are not afraid to tell you about their
plans to mine asteroids, commercialize the Moon, or
create a private space habitat. Investors will be
roaming the halls looking for the next SpaceX or
PlanetLabs, and as you share a meal or a drink with a
friend at one of the hotel restaurants or bars, you
might find your next business partner, investor, or
acquisition target. And if you search hard enough,
you might actually find the heartbeat of commercial
space herself.
Last year was a year of outstanding headlines for
the world of commercial spaceXCOR Aerospace
was featured in a Super Bowl commercial, Space
Exploration Technologies and Orbital Sciences
delivered cargo to the International Space Station,
Virgin Galactic began powered flights of
SpaceShipTwo, Moon Express closed a $2 million
investment deal, Bigelow Aerospace announced
their plans to attach an inflatable habitat to the
International Space Station, and Planetary Resources
completed a successful Kickstarter campaign where
they raised over $1.5 million in crowd sourced
funding. Not only that, but some new kids on the
block were announced, like Dennis Tito & Inspiration
Mars, Deep Space Industries, Golden Spike Inc.,
Stratolaunch Systems, Skybox Imaging, and
PlanetLabs, which excited all of us immensely. Yet

World View is creating the capability to routinely fly people and payloads on high altitude
balloon flights in the stratosphere, beginning in late-2016. Applications of the World View
flight system will include luxury tourism to experience the Earth from the edge of space,
capabilities to fly research and education payloads, as well as with researchers and educators
themselves, to this high altitude environment, and other dedicated payload applications
involving long- duration high altitude balloon flight. This presentation will summarize the
business case, company development, and application areas World View expects to serve, with

The Golden Spike Company
The Golden Spike Company is planning to transform human space exploration by
putting in place aordably priced lunar orbital and surface expeditions to the only
natural satellite of the Earth the Moon. Golden Spike will further transform human
lunar exploration by making these missions participatory expeditions that involve the
general public in ways that create exciting new ways to monetize human space exploration. The Golden Spike Company is working to implement and operate a human
space transportation system at commercially successful price points. Our company is
comprised of veteran space program executives, managers, engineers and entrepreneurs
focused on generating a sustainable human lunar exploration business that generates
profits through multiple high value revenue streams.
Xtraordinary Innovative Space Partnerships, Inc.
The focus of Xtraordinary Innovative Space Partnerships, Inc. (XISP-Inc) is technology
development missions conducted on and/or leveraging the resources of the International Space Station (ISS). One of the interesting challenges with respect to technology
development missions for the ISS is the necessity, driven by the prevailing resource constraints, of fostering communities of interest that cross traditional discipline boundaries
from the inception of the work. It is through turning this competition for resources into
an impetus for cooperation that one can best draw out the potential value the work
and thus avoid the characterization of such eorts as self-licking ice cream cones or
discipline sand boxes divorced from any applicability to real missions.
Silicon Valley Space Center
The Silicon Valley Space Center integrates the innovative and entrepreneurial practices
of Silicon Valley into the burgeoning NewSpace industry. This includes the Valleys
practices for business acceleration, incubation, and angel level funding. The SVSC
enables entrepreneurial start-up or early-stage companies to commercialize products or
service concepts for space, and helps entrepreneurs identify niches in NewSpace markets.
SVSC incorporates the Valleys richness of technology, business, entrepreneurial finance,
and educational leadership.
Space Startup Weekend
Calling all hackers, space geeks, developers, designers and entrepreneurs! Startup Weekend: Space is coming to Silicon Valley July 25-27! In coordination with Space Frontier

coaches. Its been a little over half a century since people started promising the space
age was just around the corner. Startup Weekend: Space is about bringing some of
todays brightest hackers, hipsters and hustlers together to find ways to deliver on that
promise. Judges, Speakers, and (of course) prizes to be announced.

SEDS UCSD
The UC San Diego Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS)
is devoted to proving the feasibility of 3D printing rocket engines. Last October, they
accomplished their goals with a successful static fire test of a 200lb thrust printed
rocket engine named Tri-D. Their successes has gotten them publicity throughout the
media being featured in Discovery Channel, Space.com, the front page of the San Diego
Union Tribune, Yahoo News, NBC News and many more. SEDS UCSD believes that
printing rocket engines can significantly reduces the cost and manufacturing time of
traditional fabrication and can allow for complex internal channel designs maximizing
engine efficiency. The student group is working with Garvey Spacecraft Corp. on a
Phase I STTR to test and fly a LOx/Ethanol printed rocket engine. SEDS will be
presenting their Tri-D engine from last year as well as their currently sponsored project,
Vulcan-1, a 1000 lb thrust printed rocket engine. GPI Prototype will be printing a total

Space Frontier Foundation
We are transforming space from a government-owned bureaucratic program into a dynamic and inclusive frontier open to people. We are determined to convert the image
held by many young people that the future will be worse than the present, and we reject
the idea that the worlds greatest moments are in its past.
Founded in 1988, the Space Frontier Foundation is an advocacy organization committed
to realizing the vision of a greatly expanded and permanent human presence in space.
Space alone oers the resources necessary to ensure the survival and prosperity of our
species for numerous generations to come. To realize this vision, the Foundation is
fundamentally transforming the conception of space as the exclusive domain of government and government affiliated organizations into a widely accessible frontier ripe with
opportunity. Read about our founding and history.
Through conferences, speakers, policy papers, awards, prizes, and nationally recognized
projects, the Space Frontier Foundation is actively advancing the cause of NewSpace,
the term which has come to represent space infused with the spirit of entrepreneurialism
and the free market.
The Space Frontier Foundation is composed of a diverse, multinational array of space activists, expert scientists and engineers, media and political professionals, entrepreneurs,
investors, and passionate citizens. You too can be a part of the Space Frontier Foundation. Contact us today to find out how.
Stanford Student Spaceflight Initiative
The Stanford Student Space Initiative (SSI) believes our future in space is being reinvented by private companies. We aim to advance this next era of space exploration
by focusing on three things: The people, the place and the technology. In the two
years since our inception, weve launched and recovered 6 high altitude balloons, built
a CubeSat thats launching to space in October, experimented with a LOX/Methane
rocket engine, flown an experiment aboard a zero-gravity plane, run an International
Space Station biology experiment, organized talks from the President of SpaceX, the
Director of DARPA, the Director of NASA Ames, and other industry leaders, put on a
conference with talks from a co-founder of Skybox, Steve Jurvetson, and Stanford professors with 60+ industry professionals in the 200+ attendees, and sent our members
and alumni to internships or jobs at SpaceX, Skybox, and other space companies.
Students for the Exploration and Development of Space, USA
Students for the Explorations and Development of Space is an independent, studentbased organization which promotes the exploration and development of space. SEDS
pursues this mission by educating people about the benefits of space, by supporting a
network of interested students, by providing an opportunity for members to develop
their leadership skills, and inspiring people through our involvement in space-related
projects. SEDS believes in a space-faring civilization and that focusing the enthusiasm
of young people is the key to our future in space.
