Use of Keylok Usb Dongle: Please Read Before Using The Programs

1. The document provides instructions for installing and using a USB dongle key with RES2DINV and RES3DINV geophysical modeling software. It involves replacing existing program files with updated versions, installing USB dongle driver software, attaching the dongle, and restarting so the programs can detect the dongle for authorization. 2. It recommends attaching the dongle to the first USB port and installing the driver software by running the installer file in the driver folder on the installation CD. 3. If the programs still cannot detect the dongle after restarting, the driver may need to be installed manually using the Add Hardware option in the Control Panel.

USE OF KEYLOK USB DONGLE

Please read before using the programs

1). If the RES2DINV and RES3DINV software are already
installed in your computer, you will need to replace the
RES2DINV.EXE and RES3DINV.EXE files with the latest
versions which support the dongle in the CD. You need to copy
the RES2DINV.EXE, RES3DINV.EXE and RES2DMOD.EXE
files from the Win_Updates folder/subdirectory to the
appropriate folders in your computer (usually C:\RES2DINV,
C:\RES3DINV and C:\RES2DMOD).
2). If the RES2DINV and RES3DINV software have not yet
been installed, run the SETUP.EXE files found in the
RES2DINV and RES3DINV folders in the CD.
3). First, make sure that the USB dongle is not attached to the
computer. You will now need to install the software driver for
the Keylok dongle by running the INSTALL.EXE program in
the KEYLOK_SYSTEM_DRIVER folder in the CD. Please
note that in Windows NT/2000/XP you must have
Administrator privileges in order to install the driver. For
computers that do not have a parallel port, you should type in
the /B option on the INSTALL.EXE command line in the Run
box as shown below. This is to avoid installing the driver for the
parallel port as well.

4). After installing the driver, switch off the computer and
attach the USB dongle. It is recommended that you attach the

USB dongle to the first USB port on the computer. Some older
computer systems have trouble detecting it on the second USB
port. Now switch on the computer. Windows will display a
message saying that it has found a new hardware and it should
then automatically copy the driver (the USBKEY.SYS file) for
the dongle.
5). After Windows had installed the USBKEY.SYS file, restart
the computer. Try running the RES2DINV or RES3DINV
program (to make sure the USB version of the program is used,
on the top left corner of the window the words such as
RES2DINV USB ver. should be displayed), and they should
be able to detect the dongle.
If the programs still cannot detect the dongle, you will need to
install the driver manually. Click the Control Panel under
Settings, and then select the Add New Hardware option.
Windows then searches for new Plug and Play devices. Click
the No the device isnt in the list and then the No I want to
select the hardware from a list options. Near the near bottom
of hardware list, the USB Dongle will probably be displayed.
Click it, and then the Have Disk option in the next dialog
box. Then click Browse and change the folder to the
KEYLOK_SYSTEM_DRIVER folder in the CD. A list of files
with the inf extension will then be displayed. For Windows
98/Me select the usbkey98.inf file, for Windows NT/2000/XP
select the Usbkey2K.inf file. After that click OK, and a
Copying files dialog box should be shown, and Windows
should copy the drivers. After copying the drivers, you need to
restart the computer, and the RES2DINV/RES3DINV
programs should then be able to detect the dongle. If you have
any problems, please contact the provider of this software by
