Hierarchy on a Warnier-Orr Diagram is represented with
brackets. Brackets serve two purposes. They:
enclose the members of a set of logically
related items,
separate each hierarchical level.

The Warnier-Orr Diagram uses three parts to represent the
structure of a module:
ERP, PMS,
HR &
Payroll
BEGIN,
process steps,
END.

To represent sequence, the process steps are written at the
same hierarchical level in a column one after the other and
are read from top to bottom.

Alternation
The alternation construct is used to represent mutually
exclusive alternatives. For example, the notation (0,1)
means that the item may or may not be present.

If two items are separated by a +, i.e., are non-exclusive, one
item or the other or both items may occur. For example, the
customer may have a home address or a mailing address or
both a home address and a separate mailing address.

The alternation construct is also called sequence or CASE.
Repetition
The repetition construct is used to show that something
occurs repeatedly. The number of times an item is repeated
is written in parentheses below the item name. For example,
the notation (1,10) below the item Customer Record indicates
that there can be from one to 10 customer records in the
Customer File.
