Laptop vs. Desktop Computer: A Research Based On Computer Preference of Ramon Magsaysay High School Students

This document is a research paper on the computer preferences of students at Ramon Magsaysay High School. It contains an introduction, literature review, methodology, data analysis and conclusion. The researchers surveyed 40 students to determine if they prefer laptops or desktops. The results showed most students have computers at home and prefer laptops for their portability. However, students spend more time on social media and games than school assignments. In conclusion, while computer use is common, students prioritize entertainment over schoolwork.

Introduction
Over the years, the technology keeps improving, more and more people
are using it in their daily lives. This has become a significant matter in all our
lives. Thankfully we have technology which makes our lives easier. One of the
works of technology is computer.

Our current significant development is due to computers in many areas.

Examples of these areas are business, medicine, environment, technology,
education and also our daily lives. Computers are one of the most important
elements to make our modern society because we use computers almost
everyday. Computer provides us many advantages for human. It helps people to
commit lesser mistakes while helping us save our time and enhancing quality.

People nowadays tend to think that all computers are the same. However,
computer have many variants. For example, people tend to think that "Personal
Computer" is the representation of computers. However it is just one type of
computers. Types of computer includes desktop computer and laptop computer.
This two play an important role in our present time because it makes our life
more convenient.

So the proponents have come up to a research topic that will test on the
preference of Ramon Magsaysay High School students between laptop or
desktop based on their specification, affordability and conveniency.

Paghunasan 5

Statement of the Problem

The chief concern of this research is whether Ramon Magsaysay
High School students prefer on using desktop computer or laptop
computer.
1. What do they usually use between laptop computer or desktop computer.
2. What are their preference between the two types of computer based on
affordability, accuracy, coveniency and specification.
3. Do they have computer at home or they rent in an internet caf?
4. How long does they stay on using computer?
5. Does all the information needed by the user satisfy by using computer.

Definition of Terms
Computer- an electronic machine that can store and work with large amounts of
information
Laptop- of a size and design that makes operation and use on ones lap
convenient
Desktop- a computer that is designed to be used on a desk or table
Specification- a written description of an invention for which a patent is sought
Conveniency- a quality or situation that makes something easy or useful for
someone by reducing the amount of work or time required to do something
Affordability- to be able to bear the cost of

Body of the Research Paper

Both desktop and laptop computers have advantages and disadvantages. If
you are trying to determine which option will best suit your needs, take a look at
the advantages and benefits each of them offers.

Advantages of a desktop computer, as compared to a laptop computer:

Desktop computers have more power and more features.
Desktop computers are easier, and less expensive, to upgrade.
Desktop computers are generally less expensive overall and offer a better
overall value.
Desktop computers have a more comfortable keyboard and a much easier to
use mouse. It should be noted that an aftermarket large, comfortable mouse and
mouse pad are also possible with a laptop.
Desktop computers have larger monitors.
Desktop computers are generally easier, and less expensive, to repair.
Desktop computers have a lower risk of theft, which means less chance of
losing your data and having to pay to replace your computer.

Paghunasan 7

Advantages of a laptop computer, as compared to a desktop computer:

Laptop computers are highly portable and allow you to use your computer
almost anywhere.
If you are an international student, a laptop computer will be much easier to
transport from home to school and back again.
Laptop computers take up less room on a desk or table and can be put away
when not in use.
Laptop computers have a single cord to contend with, rather than the multiple
cords associated with desktop computer use.

While the list of advantages of a laptop computer may seem sparse when
compared to a desktop computer, the deciding factor is portability. Being able to
check email, chat online, write papers and play video games anytime, anywhere
may be worth giving up power and functionality. This is particularly true if you use
your computer primarily for checking email and completing schoolwork. If this is
the case, you likely dont need all of the functions and the increased power of a
desktop computer. On the other hand, if you are a film student or an avid gamer,
you may want to go with a desktop computer, unless you have the expendable
income to purchase a high end laptop.
Essentially, the choice comes down to portability versus functionality and cost.
While desktop computers are less expensive, more powerful and more userfriendly, there is a lot to be said for being able to do your homework in a coffee
shop and writing term papers on the beach.

Outline
More students nowadays are using computers whether it is laptop or
desktop in doing their school works, but because of computer games and other
social medias such as Facebook and Twitter, these students disregarded their
works to play or to use those things.

Methodology
The proponents first research for the reference articles for this study.
Those articles are from internets, books and magazines.
Survey papers are also made by the researchers to find out whether
the students of Ramon Magsaysay High School prefer to use desktop computers
or laptops. The following questions are the following:
Name: (optional)_______________________________
Section:______________________________________
1. Which do you prefer in using for your assignments or
projects? Laptop/ desktop?
2. How long are you using that gadget when youre using
it?
3. Did you own that gadget, do you rent or do you borrow
it?
4. What brand of that gadget are you using?
5. How often do you use that gadget? In a week?
6. What is your purpose in using computer?
7. Do you get all information in using that gadget?

The proponents chose 20 students in grades 7,8 and 9 and also 20

students from 4th year students.
After the survey process the researchers start to analyze the
gathered data and made tables, graphs for conclusion.

Conclusion
People nowadays depend on computer gadgets and most common are
specifically laptops and desktops. The survey made by the proponents showed
that most of Ramon Magsaysay students have computers whether it is laptop or
desktop at home (graph 1.0)
As the data presented (graph 1.1) most Ramon Magsaysay students are
using laptop in each year levels although some students are using desktop
computers.
This generation is hooked up by computer games, social Medias and
others. This is very visible in this paper (graph 1.2). Out of 80 students almost
half of it use computer gadgets mainly in gaming and in social medias while less
than half of it uses the computers for their assignments. Students in this
generation prioritize to play games than in doing their school works.
Also in this study, this shows that more and more students are hooked up
in using computers. In graph 1.3, this shows that more 4th year student are
using this gadget longer than in lower years yet these students use this gadget in
social medias and in gaming.
All in all, students there are more students that are using computers for
playing purposes than those students uses this gadgets for their school works.

Paghunasan 13

Recommendation
This study is mainly about the preference of RMHS students in using
between laptop and computer in doing their school works. The proponents only
surveyed 20 students in each year level hence the researchers recommend to
use more than 20 or at least 50 students per year level to come up with more
accurate result.
The proponents also think that you can get more accurate results if youy
survey more populations. Students together with working persons must be
surveyed.
The investigator also wants to recommend to survey about the effects in
numbers of information when renting computer cause renting or borrowing
computers can limit the information we can get.
