1. FE-XAM Installation:
Step1:
To Install FE-XAM Programming Software, open Topview Programmer Xilinx FPGA folder
and run Setup.exe. The installation program will guide you in remaining portion of the
installation.
Step2:
Connect +5V power supply to FE-XAM through power connector marked as P2 and switch on
the power to the target board. If STAT LED (D5) of FE-XAM is flashing, wait until flashing is
stopped. Then connect USB cable between connector P5 of FE-XAM and the host system.
Step3:
Host computer senses the external hardware on USB port and new hardware found ( FEPL
USB Device) message is displayed. Install the USB Driver for FE-XAM. USB Driver files are
available in the USB Driver folder. Hardware manual gives you detailed information of
installing the USB Driver software.
Step4:
Execute the Topview Programmer Xilinx FPGA in the host computer. Now, the host
should establish the required communication link with the Application Board.

When the communication link is successfully launched, you should see the Topview
Programmer for Xilinx FPGA application window in the host computer with Frontline
FPGA-AM Version 1.0 - Present on USB status.
Now you successfully installed the Software and Hardware of FE-XAM. Refer the hardware
manual for more information on using FE-XAM.
2. Installing ISE WebPack:
To Install ISE 9.2i WebPack Development Software, open Ise92i folder and run Setup.exe.
The installation program will guide you in remaining portion of the installation. When the
installation program asks for Registration ID give the following ID.
4803 7101 1103 1230
This particular registration ID is obtained by Frontline Electronics. Since the software tool is
a freeware, we provide the registration ID to all our customers.
You can also register the ISE 9.2i WebPack and get your own ID. To register mention the
following number as Product ID.
ISE 9.2i WebPack Product ID PWB871040113

3. Installing Lab Experiments:


VLSILab and VLSILabEVS folders contain softcopy of all the working projects mentioned in
FE-XES manuals. Copy these two folders into the C:\ drive. Now the folders C:\VLSILabME
and C:\VLSILabEVS contain all the experiments. Open the required project using Xilinx ISE
9.2i WebPack software and study the experiment. Refer FE-XAM hardware manual for using
the Xilinx ISE software.
Copy other required folders to the C:\ drive for your use.

4. Manuals:
Following Xilinx Spartan 3E FPGA reference manuals are available in the folder Manuals.
