Description of Learners: All the learners are level 4 nursing students who have learned the principles, concepts and techniques as
well as acquired the necessary skills of caring critically illed patients and their families in the Intensive Care Unit
Focus of Clinical Experience:
The 4th year nursing students will concentrate on the provision of nursing care to the critically ill patients who are admitted in
the ICU. This experience provides the 4th year nursing students the opportunity to improve their nursing skills and to experience
first- hand actual provision of nursing care to critical patients and their families.
Setting:
Intensive Care Unit is located at the 2nd floor Lorma Medical Center,Carlatan, City of San Fernando , La Union and Ground floor
of Ilocos Training Regional Medical Center, City of San Fernando, La Union, whose personnels attends to all critically ill patients
experiencing various health problems.
General Objectives:
After one month of exposure, the 4th year nursing students will be able to:
1. Familiarize themselves with the hospital policies, health personnel and ICU set-up, and the SOPs of the institution.
2. Apply nursing theories, principles and the nursing procedures in the care of critically ill patients.
3. Continue to care effectively through communication between the clinical instructor, student nurses and coworkers.
4. Identify and assess the manifestations of the different diseases that afflict the patient in the ICU
5. Utilize the nursing process to provide preventive, curative and promotive health needs of the critical patients.
