Application Procedure for fischer Reinforcement System FRS

SURFACE INSPECTION
The structures or elements to be applied with the fischer
Reinforcement System FRS must be properly surveyed
for damages and irregularities prior to application of the
carbon fiber sheets. Any corroding reinforcing bars must
be identified and repaired or provided with corrosion
resistant material.
SURFACE PREPARATION
All cracks should be first injected with an appropriate
epoxy resin injection such as fischer FC-13 epoxy
system.
Concrete defects like spalling or honeycomb should be
repaired with an appropriate concrete repair system.
Water leakage into the structure needs to be identified
and repaired prior to the application of fischer
Reinforcement System FRS. Water conveyance may be
required.
The concrete surface should to be clean, dry and
sound. All laitance and other surface contaminants
should be removed by mechanical means such as sand
blasting, grinding or water blasting. The actual method
to be employed will depend on the condition the
surface.
All surface irregularities and defects shall be grounded
smooth. Surface irregularities of less than 4mm can be
filled with fischer FRS-CB mixed with silica sand to form
a grout mix and irregularities between 4mm to 20mm
can be smoothened using fischer EC Plaster. All
concrete angles shall be rounded to no less than R =
20mm. Internal angles should be smoothened.
PRIMING
The ficher EC Primer are specially developed for use
with the fischer Reinforcement System FRS to improve
adhesion of the FRS-CB to the concrete substrate. Do
not thin fischer EC Primer. Mix the primer using a
suitable paddle for 5 minutes and apply by brush or
roller to the concrete surface. The concrete must be dry
before application.

Application Procedure for fischer Reinforcement System FRS

fischer FRS-CS APPLICATION
Ensure that all surface repair materials and fischer EC
Primer is dry prior to application of FRS-CS carbon fiber
sheets.
Cut sheets according to desired sizes. Do not remove
backing.
Mix appropriate batches of FRS-CB epoxy resin and
hardener with ratio of 4:1 ( FRS-CB comes in a 5 Kg set :
4 kg resin and 1 kg hardener ). Coverage of mixed FRS
CB is 1 kg for every 1 sqm of FRS-CS. Do not apply if
relative humidity is 85% or greater. Do not thin mixture.
Apply first coat of FRS-CB mixture by brush or roller
( coverage at approximately 0.5mm thick ).
Prior to application of the FRS-CS carbon fiber sheets,
ensure proper orientation of the fiber ( FRS-CS is unidirectional ). Apply the FRS-CS using a rubber squeegee
or ribbed metal roller to impregnate fully the FRS-CS with
the resin. Extrude all air or bubbles, as this will mean that
the resin has fully impregnated the sheet. Apply a second
coat of the resin by brush or roller ( coverage at
approximately 0.5mm thick ). Observe curing time.
SECOND AND SUBSEQUENT LAYERS:
Should a second layer of FRS-CS is required, repeat the
sequence above, ensuring that the thickness of the resin
application is the same and the carbon fiber sheet is fully
impregnated and that all air is extruded. Observe curing
time.
FINISHING
Finishing or protection coating can be applied to the
fischer Reinforcement System FRS after 24 hours
following the sheet application. Should cement plaster be
applied, broadcast fine sand to the surface of the FRS-CS
while the resin is still tacky. Allow 24 hours curing prior to
application of cement plaster.
