Saint Michael Parish Mission Statement:
We the parishioners of Saint Michael the Archangel, through leadership and strong traditions are
faithful disciples of the teachings of Jesus Christ and His Catholic Church. We commit ourselves to
be generous stewards of our faith, our parish, and our community. We strive to involve all members
to be united in one parish family for the salvation of all.
Notes from the Pastor - Thank you for all your prayers for the success of the Annual Fall Convocation
of all the priests in the diocese of Wichita with our new bishop. It was indeed a wonderful week of prayer,
learning and fraternity. Monday afternoon, the bishop welcomed all the clergy for the first time. He told us
his real experience as a priest during a first confession of kids. It was a face to face confession but one of
the kids sat in front of him for a while and never said anything. So the then Fr. Kemme said ok let us start,
in the name of the Father, and of the Son The kid followed the hand gesture but did not say anything.
So Fr. Kemme said ok, you remember how to start it Bless me father for I have sinned The kid con-
tinued to stay mum. Fr. Kemme repeated, This is how you start, bless me father for I have sinned. This is
my first confession. The kid finally responded quickly, This is my first confession too!
His welcome talk was really a wonderful first. He emphasized the importance of the relationship be-
tween bishop and priests. That we will be united and that the relationship should be based on honest, sin-
cere, mature, and mutual respect for each other. At the last part of the talk he gives us an update of our
brother priests: those who are serving outside the diocese and those who are sick. Like, we are told about
Fr. Carney, our former pastor. He is doing good serving as a chaplain at a monastery somewhere near Kan-
sas City. Every day we are joined together in morning, noon, and evening prayers, and we have mass at 11
in the morning. On Tuesday, the mass was celebrated for the priests who celebrated their 25

, 40

, 55

, and
60
th
jubilee as a priest this year. One of them was Fr. Chris Ah-maung the pastor of Columbus and Scam-
mon who celebrated his 40
th
anniversary. Then on Wednesday, the mass was celebrated in honor of and for
the intention of the newly ordained priests Fr. Sam Brandt and Fr. Andy Walsh who were just ordained
last May. Then Thursday our mass was celebrated for the intention of our brother priests who died this year
Fr. Donald Thissen our former pastor, and Fr. Bob Larsen.
As I have mentioned in the bulletin last weekend the topic for our reflection in this conference is on the
New Evangelization. We had two wonderful speakers both based in Denver, CO: the first one was Edward
Sri, a lay theologian from Saint Augustine Institute of Theology. He explained to us that the New

"The Joy of the Gospel: Faith Working Through Love
October 26, 2014
Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Ex: 22:20-26; 1 Thes 1:5c-10; Mt 22:34-40
Love your neighbor as yourself. These words come from Jesus as second in
importance only to the command to love the Lord with one's whole heart, soul
and mind. In Christ's answer to the testing by the Pharisees he summarized the
entirety of the law and prophets contained in the Hebrew Scriptures. While the
scholars of the law knew that the wrath of God would visit them if they preyed
upon widows, orphans, aliens and their poor neighbors, they did not understand
the law as a command to love their neighbor. Jesus' words reach us today as a
reminder that a person in need is our neighbor and we have a duty to address
those needs. St. Paul praises the Thessalonians for taking the message of the
Gospel to heart and serving each other in faith and love. As we contemplate the
words of our Lord, may his light show us the path to the Kingdom.
First Saturday Rosary
Saturday, November 1 is the first Saturday of November and our Diocesan
scheduled day to pray the rosary to end abortion at the South Wind Womens
Center in Wichita. Your parish is scheduled to have a presence there at the clin-
ic on Saturday, November 1. We will begin the rosary around 9:00am. The
address of the clinic is 5107 E. Kellogg, Wichita. Please notify your parish and/
or respect life coordinators of this event.
We understand that, due to travel purposes, it can be difficult to be there at
that time. So if you are unable to be there with us physically, we ask that you
gather together in your parish or family to pray a rosary to end abortion with us
at that time. We must unite our prayers for an end to abortion in this country
and in this world.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Respect Life
and Social Justice Office at 316-269-3935.
We hope you will be able to join us on Saturday, November 1!

Evangelization contains the same message of Christs love,
forgiveness of sins, and redemption but that there is an ur-
gent need to proclaim the Gospel with "new ardor, method
and expression", as Blessed John Paul II insisted as written
in his encyclical Redemptoris Missio. This New Evangeli-
zation he said engages the present-day culture and modern
man. He provided three circumstances in evangelization as
contained in that document: (1) preaching to those who
have never heard the Gospel (ad gentes), (2) preaching to
those Christian communities where the Church is present
and who have fervor in their faith, and (3) preaching to
those Christian communities who have ancient roots but
who have lost a living sense of the faith, or even no longer
consider themselves members of the Church, and live a life
far removed from Christ and his Gospel. In this case what is
needed is a new evangelization or a re-evangelization.
The second speaker was Fr. Scott Traynor, the rector of St.
John Vianney Seminary also in Denver. He is a noted
speaker on the topic where he emphasized that Relational
Prayer is the foundation of the New Evangelization. He
continued to encourage everyone how we have to do more
than just talk about prayer. He discusses how we must
live our prayer in the union of love within the heart of the
Holy Trinity. That is the goal of Christian prayer.

All Saints and All Souls:
All Saints falls on Saturday this year. It is one of the three holy
days that, when falling on Saturday or Monday, is abrogated.
Therefore, this year it is not a holy day of obligation. (The other
two that may be abrogated are Jan. 1, Mother of God and August
15, the Assumption). Since it falls on a weekend our schedule
will be the normal mass times!
John Twarog entered eternal life, last Thursday October 23.
Our condolences to John, Jr. and David Twarog and their fami-
lies. If you havent known it, his funeral was Saturday, October
25 at 10:00 in the morning at the Saint Michael Hall. Please
include John and his family in your prayers. Eternal rest grant
unto him O Lord. And let perpetual life shine upon him. Amen.
God bless you all! Fr. Roger
St. michael, defend us in all our battles!
