COST-BENEFIT ANALYSIS OVER A PRODUCTIVE PERIOD OF 5 YEARS

Supposing that we can reach the normal seed yield (with irrigation) and can sell Jatropha
seed at US$0.11/kg (Exwork price) as Indonesian market price, then we have the following
table for 01 hectare (land rental is not included yet):

Seed income (USD) Cost (USD)

Profit
Year Yield Unit
Income Cultivation Harvest Total (USD)
(kg) price
Year 1 1250 0.11 137.5 614 67 681 -543.5
Year 2 1500 0.11 165 174 80.4 254.4 -89.4
Year 3 5000 0.11 550 174 268 442 108
Year 4 6250 0.11 687.5 174 335 509 178.5
Year 5 8000 0.11 880 174 428.8 602.8 277.2

COMPARISION WITH ACACIA CULTIVATION

Supposing that the seed yield of year 1 and year 2 are the low yields (with irrigation) and of the year
3, year 4 and year 5 are the normal yields (with irrigation) and Hanhwa pricing proposal is
accepted, then we have the following table for 01 hectare:

Seed income (USD) Crude Jatropha oil income (USD)

Year Yield Productivity
Unit price Income Unit price Income
(kg) (litre)
Year 1 750 0.09 67.5 214 0.53 113.42
Year 2 1000 0.09 90 286 0.53 151.58
Year 3 5000 0.09 450 1429 0.53 757.37
Year 4 6250 0.09 562.5 1786 0.53 946.58
Year 5 8000 0.09 720 2286 0.53 1211.58
21000 1890 6000 3180.53

In this case, annual income (for seed) per 01 ha is: US$378/ha/year that is equal to
71.2% of the income of Acacia cultivation at Cat Van farm.

22000 2420 6287 3332.11

In this case, annual income (for seed) per 01 ha is: US$484/ha/year that is equal to 91%
of the income of Acacia cultivation at Cat Van farm in Nghe An.

Supposing that we can reach the most optimistic situation: the highest seed yield (with
irrigation) is reached (it is an unfounded optimism if we use normal seed for germination)
and Hanhwa buy-back price is accepted, then we have the following table for 01 hectare:

Seed income (USD) Crude Jatropha oil income (USD)

Year Yield Unit Productivity
Income Unit price Income
(kg) price (litre)
Year 1 2500 0.09 225 714 0.53 378.42

Year 5 12500 0.09 1125 3571 0.53 1892.63
31000 2790 8857 4694.21
In this case, annual income (for seed) per 01 ha is: US$558/ha/year that is equal to 105%
of the income of Acacia cultivation at Cat Van farm (Nghe An)
