AIX For System Administrators: Practical Guide To AIX

IBM introduced AIX in 1986 for its IBM RT workstation. Over time, AIX evolved to serve as the primary operating system for IBM's RS/6000 and later pSeries servers, which used PowerPC and POWER microprocessors. In 2000, IBM consolidated its server brands like AS/400, RS/6000, and pSeries under the unified eServer brand. In 2004, IBM further unified its server lines under the IBM System i and IBM System p brands. Finally in 2008, IBM merged these into a single Power Systems product line that can run AIX, IBM i, or Linux operating systems. AIX has continued to be developed and updated to support new POWER microprocessors introduced over the years.
