Treatment

Production: The darkness

Genre: the genre of our production is supernatural horror as we preferred this genre to a
typical horror. This is a sub-genre and incorporates all the themes within our ideas for our
production. We preferred this genre as we thought it would be visible for us to shot a
successful thriller film instead of a horror. We thought it would be more visible due to the
generic codes and conventions and also pulling of a successful horror film.
Duration: The duration of our film is two minutes as we are only filming the opening
sequence, this means that we need to have an impact from the start to get the viewer to
watch the rest of this film.
Target Audience: The target audience of our production are the ages 15-5. This allows
us to get different responses about our production as the older ages would give us a
different review than the younger ages. The reason why the minimum age was 15 is
because our sequence may contain material that could upset a younger audience.
Outline:The main protagonist is getting ready for bed. !t is a normal routine, one she
does every night. "nce she finishes her bedtime routine she heads for bed. #efore she
gets into bed, she turns the hallway light off. "nce she does it, she sees a silhouette of a
weird figure. $he is shocked but she doesn%t fully believe what she is seeing. $o she turns
her light switch on and off and carries seeing the weird figure. this makes her put
something on the switch e.g sellotape to hold the switch in place. $he then goes into bed
and she hears something taking the sellotape off. $he then witnesses the light turn off so
she goes under her blanket because of fright. Then her bedside lamp starts flickering so
she checks and sees a ghostly face and the figure turns the light off.
Character breakdown:
Protagonist: &emale, age '( and white. )t first she is portrayed as normal person.
*owever, once the events start to unfold, she becomes vulnerable.
Antagonist: &emale, age 1( and any race. $he is portrayed as weird and straight from the
onset, the audience is supposed to be scared of her.
Visual elements:
+ighting , The lighting of our production should be dark as it should make the audience
feel more worried. We can achieve low key lighting as the location we are filming at has
ad-ustable lights.
.amera movement- The movement of the camera should be slow in the beginning in
order to show that something may be following or watching the main protagonist.
*owever, before the clima/, the movement should be sharp as it could show the audience
that something is going to happen.
0diting , same with the editing quick sharp cuts between each shot to create tension
within the scenes. +ayering scenes of the top of each other and dissolving between the
two to get a flickering effect, We are able to do this by using &inal cut pro and editing
software with all the latest updated software.
$etting- the setting for our production will be set in a house that the protagonist is alone
as it can easily show vulnerability.
.ostume- The costume for the main protagonist is -ust everyday py-amas. *owever, for
the antagonist, she should wear an all white big t shirt that gives her a weird vibe.
Audio elements:
1usic - we are going to have score music in the background of our production to enhance
tension and fear as it%s a supernatural horror film.
Rationale: The reason why we chose this concept was because the idea of a supernatural
being always scares people. The fear of the unknown is always the main part of peoples
fear and us as a group believed we could create a good sequence based on this fear.
Constraints and contingency: $ome of the problems we may encounter is that the
location we were supposed to film at did not work with the setting of the sequence.
Therefore, we will have to re-schedule for another date which means we will have less
time to film. )lso people not turning up or being late could be a big problem as it will
limit us on the amount of footage we could get filmed and also the lighting in the day as it
gets dark quite quickly now the later we film the more it could -eopardi2e our production
with continuity errors .
