how meditation wor%s or why it matters that they %now why

e&periments as well. Patients were told to meditate while
their brain#s a'tivity was monitored.

!t has also been shown in the way that your body rea'ts to

supported in this position. :ou should not put yoursel" in a
position that allows you to "all asleep$ though.

1he most 'ommon and the most bene"i'ial type o" posture is
that o" poised. 1he poised posture is one in whi'h the ba'%
and spine is upright and straight$ but is not rigidly so. 1he
reasoning behind this bene"it is a'tually important to
understand.

*hen you are in the poised posture$ your body is alert. :our
state o" mind is that o" being aware and poised$ ready "or

Lotus <osture

the most 'ommon and well li%ed posture in the >astern

1he problem with the lotus posture is that it 'an be

you#ll want to allow your mind the ability to noti'e what is
happening around you.
0ut$ when your mind wanders away and you begin to add
additional thoughts onto that original one$ developing an
interest in them$ 'ome ba'% to that meditation ob-e't and
readdress your methods o" entering into meditation.
*hen you learn to %eep your mind "o'used and rela&ed$ you
'an reali2e that your mind has gone o"" into another
dire'tion and bring it ba'% to where we want it to be "or

1he ob-e't that you use is generally 'alled a mantra$ whi'h is
a'tually a spe'i"i' word or even a syllable.

breathing movements as your ob-e't "or meditation. !" you

)hould you go with a mantra "or your method o" indu'ing
meditation$ do so with 'are"ul thought. 9lthough some
meditation therapists will tell you that a spe'i"i' sele'tion o"
sounds should be used "or your mantra as determined by

easily brings another thought to your mind.
