OPERATIONAL GUIDE
INITIAL PREPARATION
The meter s supped wth batteres (for detas see page 19).
To prepare the nstrument for use, connect the pH eectrode
and the temperature probe to the BNC and temperature sockets
on the top of the nstrument. The temperature probe can be
used ndependenty to take temperature measurements, or t
can be used n con|uncton wth the pH eectrode to utze the
meter's Automatc Temperature Compensaton (ATC) mode. If
the probe s dsconnected, temperature can aso be set manuay
wth the ARROW keys.
Turn the nstrument ON by pressng ON/OFF.
At start-up the dspay w show a LCD segments and then

check (or as ong as the button s hed).
The meter w automatcay enter measurement mode.
After measurement swtch the meter oh. Cean the eectrode and
store t wth a few drops of HI 70300 storage souton n the
protectve cap. To save the batteres, the auto-oh feature
turns the meter oh after 20 mnutes (no button pressed). To
dsabe ths feature, see "Setup Menu" secton on page 16.
pH MEASUREMENTS
To take a pH measurement remove the
eectrode
The LCD w show the pH measurement and the temperature of
the
sampe.
In order to take more accurate pH measurements, make sure that
the nstrument s cabrated (see page 10 for detas).
The gass bub and the |uncton on your eectrode shoud aways be
most, never aow t to dry out.
If severa measurements are taken successvey n dherent
sampes, rnse the eectrode thoroughy wth deonzed or tap
water and a sma amount of the sampe to be measured.
The pH readng s drecty ahected by temperature. In order for the
meter
to measure the pH accuratey, temperature must be compensated
for. If
the sampe temperature s dherent from the temperature at whch
the pH
eectrode was kept, aow a few mnutes for therma equbraton.
To use the meter's Automatc Temperature Compensaton feature,
submerse the temperature probe nto the sampe as cose to
the eectrode as possbe and wat for a few mnutes.
If manua temperature compensaton s desred the temperature
probe must be dsconnected from the nstrument.

Large currents can dsturb the cabraton of the eectrode for
many
hours.
For these reasons hgh humdty envronments, short crcuts
and statc dscharges can be detrmenta to a stabe pH
readng.
The pH eectrodes fe aso depends on the temperature. If
constanty
used at hgh temperatures, the eectrode fe s drastcay
reduced.

ELECTRODE CONDITIONING & MAINTENANCE
Not present n ge eectrodes.
PREPARATION PROCEDURE
Remove the eectrode protectve cap.
DO NOT BE ALARMED IF ANY SALT DEPOSITS ARE PRESENT. Ths s
norma wth eectrodes and they w dsappear when rnsed wth
water. Durng transport tny bubbes of ar may have formed
nsde the gass bub. The eectrode cannot functon propery
under these condtons. These bubbes can be removed by "shakng
down" the eectrode as you woud do wth a gass thermometer.
If the bub and/or |uncton are dry, soak the eectrode n HI 70300
Storage Souton for at east one hour.

Souton.
MEASUREMENT
Rnse the eectrode tp wth dsted water, submerse t 3 cm
(1V") n the sampe and str genty for a few seconds.
For a faster response and to avod cross contamnaton of the
sampes, rnse the eectrode tp wth the souton to be tested,
before takng any measurements.
STORAGE PROCEDURE
To mnmze coggng and ensure a quck response tme, the
gass bub and the |uncton shoud aways be kept most.
When not n use, store t wth a few drops of HI 70300
storage souton n the protectve cap.
NEVER STORE THE ELECTRODE IN DISTILLED OR DEIONIZED
WATER.
PERIODIC MAINTENANCE
Inspect eectrode and cabe. The cabe must be ntact. No
cracks shoud be seen on the eectrode stem or bub. If any
scratches or cracks are present, repace the eectrode. Rnse oh
any sat deposts wth water. Connectors must be perfecty cean
and dry.
For reabe eectrodes:
Re the eectrode wth fresh eectroyte (see the eectrodes
speccatons to seect the correct reng souton). Aow the
eectrode to stand uprght for 1 hour. Foow the Storage
Procedure above.
CLEANING PROCEDURE
