Introducing rural students to modern technology and its possibilities Description of Project: !his pro"ect launched in collaboration #ith the $inistry of Education %$oE& is aimed at giving rural students the opportunity to engage in real-time interactive learning from e'perienced teachers. (essons #ill be recorded at the television recording studio at the )ational Institute of Education %)IE&, and broadcast via a dedicated channel on *ialog +atellite !, to 1--- schools connected to the net#or.. !he channel #ill be supplemented by a (earning $anagement +ystem %($+& through #hich the interactive element #ill be facilitated. +chools/ !he 1--- schools for the initial phase are being selected by the $inistry, in an equitable manner giving consideration to dispersion, language, available facilities, etc. Programs/ Primary focus of the lessons #ill be 0dvanced (evel and 1rdinary (evel sub"ects in +inhala and !amil. (ess regular summary lessons #ill be available for other grades. In addition to these, teacher training and s.ill development #ill be included in the program line-up. !he programs #ill be produced by in-house technicians at )IE, #ith e'perienced teachers conducting the lessons. 0part from the lessons on syllabus content, documentary-type programs #ill also be produced #ith on-location filming. 0dditional programs #ill be sourced from e'ternal sources #here possible ($+/ !he ($+ #as developed by the *ialog-2o$ (aboratory. It #ill carry timetables, lesson outlines, qui33es, etc. as #ell as pre-recorded lessons in audio-visual format. ,oice and te't chatting facility #ill enable teachers and students to interact. 1perations/ !he )IE is upgrading the studio and hiring additional staff for program production. )IE #ill be appointing technical and academic officials to coordinate those aspects of the productions. *ialog #ill provide funding for 3 content developers %for the ($+& and a coordinator. 0 revie# committee shall be set-up to screen e'ternal programs and evaluate in-house productions. 0 supervisory committee comprising of senior officials from *ialog, )IE and $1E #ill provide high-level guidance.
