1) A user created a custom section using the Section Wizard but it did not render correctly in the 3D view in STAAD.
2) To view the custom section properly, the user needs to define the profile polygon by providing coordinates of the corners when creating a general section in the user table.
3) When the user ran analysis on the model with the custom section, an error occurred because STAAD cannot design sections not in its cold-formed or aluminum databases. The custom sections would need to be added to these databases to be properly designed.

A Section created using Section Wizard can't be viewd in 3D rendering in STAAD This question is answered Posted by Steel Structural Design on Tue, Jun 4 2013 6:45 AM Hi everybody, I tried to create a new section using section wizard and then exporting it into STAAD, and using create user table >>> Define >>> assign, but when I tried to view it as a 3D rendered , it appered as a line, and I've to view it in its real shape to get the proper Beta Angle of the beam to get the right load analysis of my structure and then a right design, so what's the solution for this situation?????? Thanks a lot in advance =') Posted by Sye on Thu, Jun 6 2013 4:37 AM Verified by Steel Structural Design Verified Answer STAAD cannot design coldformed sections unless these are chosen from the coldformed section database available within the software. In your case, you have defined general sections and so these cannot be designed per the AISI code ( members 7 9 17 to 20 ... etc ). The only way you can get these designed is, if you add these coldformed sections directly into the STAAD.Pro Coldformed section database. However you have to choose one of the standard coldformed shapes that is already available and add the new section to that database Also 23, 24, 25 ... are aluminum section and cannot be designed using LRFD code. Posted by Shany on Tue, Jun 4 2013 6:58 AM Hello In order to plot the profile of the section in the STAAD GUI, the program needs to know the exact shape. The shape can be understood only if STAAD.Pro knows the coordinates of the corners of the cross section. Unfortunately, when one creates a PRISMATIC or a GENERAL section using Section Wizard and exporting that data to a STAAD user table file, the coordinates of the corners are not exported with the property values. Due to this, STAAD is unable to draw the precise shape. As a workaround, if suitable for your section , you may use the "Create User Table" from the Tools Menu and use the General Section type . Switch on the check box named Define Profile polygon and provide the coordinates of the corners. Once all corners are specified, click on Compute Section Properties and save it. Shayan Posted by Steel Structural Design on Tue, Jun 4 2013 7:24 AM Hi Shany, I created the following section, and as you said it won't draw the section, 6/5/2014 A Section created using Section Wizard can' t be viewd in 3D rendering in STAAD - Structural Analysis and Design - Forum - Structural Analysis and Desi https://communities.bentley.com/products/structural/structural_analysis___design/f/5932/t/87526.aspx 3/7 so that, I did as you told me (Create user table>>General>>OK), but no choice is available, i.e: the following appears: Posted by Steel Structural Design on Tue, Jun 4 2013 7:27 AM 6/5/2014 A Section created using Section Wizard can' t be viewd in 3D rendering in STAAD - Structural Analysis and Design - Forum - Structural Analysis and Desi https://communities.bentley.com/products/structural/structural_analysis___design/f/5932/t/87526.aspx 4/7 Ohhh, sorry it's working now, and I'm going to get my section =') thanks a lot Shany =') Posted by Shany on Tue, Jun 4 2013 7:40 AM Happy to help....
