The Sussex Village Board last week approved a
storm water repair project near the intersection of
Bowling Green Street and Champeny Road.
During the Sept. 9 Village Board meeting, Trustee
Tim Dietrich said flooding "has been a problem for quite
awhile." Dietrich said one of the problems is that the lat-
erals that go under pavement are underneath private
property and the village has not had approval to go on
the property to address the problem.
Dietrich said the village did get a permanent ease-
ment to address the problem and staff has examined
several options. While the village could spent up to
$75,000, Dietrich said it was recommended that staff
make repairs at a cost of $3,500. That would involve
repairing damaged pipe and installing rip rap at the
sewer outflow to prevent erosion. Also, pipe cleaning
will be done by Visu-Sewer as part of the project.
Village President Greg Goetz said a resident came
to a recent committee and complained of "a lake" in
front of her house. Goetz told the resident that item
would be on the board agenda.
In another matter, the board approved repairs to
Raw Sewage Pump #1 at the village's Waste Water
Treatment Plan. The repairs will cost $59,750, which
was chosen over the option of purchasing a new pump
at a cost of $128,713.
Salt purchase finalized: The board approved a
base contract with Waukesha County for the purchase
of salt at $8.14 per ton. The village is purchasing 1800
tons with 450 tons in reserve, the same as last winter.
The base amount will be $124,938 while the reserve

Drs. Richard and Bruce Winter
Dear Dr. Winter, I have a slight under-bite,
otherwise, my teeth are actually quite straight.
I had braces on my top teeth at a young age
and as I grew up my under-bite worsened. This
under-bite has resulted in some unnatural wear
and chipping on a couple of my top teeth. Do
you have any non-surgery solutions available?
Dear Ted, there are many options for fixing
underbites that are non-surgical but I cannot
comment on your options until I have
completed an examination and x-ray visit.
Sometimes orthodontics can correct your
problem other times crowns can be used to
change your bite. So surgery is always the last
option considered. It is important to
remember that once significant wear and
chipping has occurred, the teeth that caused
this chipping also need to be corrected to
recover the space that was lost from these teeth
erupting in to the chipped areas.
Dear Dr. Winter, I had a tooth break at the
gumline. I really dont want a bridge as I have
heard they have to shave down the other teeth
and those teeth will be weakened. I am also
concerned that I might need bone grafting to
have an implant. What is your opinion about
placing implants the same day the tooth comes
out? Can this help me avoid a bone graft?
Dear John, the ability to place an implant the
day the tooth is removed is dependent on
several factors. First the remaining bone
should be intact and thicker than 1.5 mm so
that there is good blood supply to fill in the
gap between the implant and the remaining
tooth socket. Next there should be good
stabilization of the implant and if it can not be
placed with good insertion torque, it may be
better to graft the socket and come back in 3
months to place the implant after bone fill has
occurred. The literature supports both means
of placing implants but it is still dependent
upon clinician skill, bone quality and quantity
and cosmetic expectations of the patient.
We would be happy to perform a second
opinion or comprehensive examination and
x-ray visit for our readers! Please call us at
414-464-9021 to schedule your visit. We
invite you to visit our new website at
www.hamptondentalassociates.com For
photos and videos of our dentistry and
information about implants and cosmetics.
We look forward to meeting you!
Sincerely,
Dr. Richard Winter

United Way in Waukesha County
would like to invite volunteers to the fol-
lowing volunteer opportunities:
Ambassador for Healthcare
Clinic Menomonee Falls
We are looking for volunteers to greet
and guide patients and visitors. Many
people entering our hospital are unfamil-
iar with the facility and have a heightened
level of anxiety. As an Ambassador you
will help relieve that anxiety by getting the
patient and/or visitor to where they need
to go. This is a great position for volunteers
looking to engage in genuine human inter-
action.
Diaper Derby Leader -
Waukesha
Are you looking for a way to help inno-
cent babies in our community but are short
on time? Or are unsure of what to do?
Host a Diaper Derby with your co-workers,
church group, or neighbors!! Diapers that
are donated go into our Earn as You
Learn Store and go directly to the babies
in our program. Parents must earn "baby
bucks" by reaching goals for themselves
and their children to improve their quality
of life. Baby bucks are the store currency.
Babies are specifically in need of sizes 3-
6 and wipes. Help us ensure the babies in
our program have diapers that keep their
soft, delicate skin healthy.
Costumed Historic Interpreter
Eagle
The primary responsibility in this posi-
tion is to share the history of Wisconsin
peoples, demonstrate 19th century skills,
handcrafts, and chores, while attired in
period clothing. They must also provide
security and safety for guests and the arti-
facts. It is also crucial that the person in
this volunteer position provides superior
customer service to our guests by under-
standing the operations at Old World
Wisconsin. Volunteer interpreters should
have excellent oral and communication
skills and have an interest in learning
Wisconsin history and demonstrating 19th
century skills and handcrafts, and a pas-
sion for working with all ages. We provide
orientation, training, and period clothing.
Mediator Waukesha
If you would like to make a positive
contribution to our community and learn
conflict resolution skills, volunteers are
needed to mediate disputes in Waukesha
County. Volunteers work on a variety of
cases, including small/large claims, neigh-
borhood, family, juvenile, business, land-
lord/tenant & workplace. Dates and times
depend on the caseload.
Requirements: Volunteers must be a
minimum of 18 years old and consent to a
background check. Extensive training is
required and provided. For more informa-
tion about this opportunity, please call the
Mediation Center.

Village of Hartland approves
Born Learning Trail
United Way in Waukesha County has
been given the green light from the
Village of Hartland Park Board
Wednesday to install a Born Learning
Trail at Castle Park. With corporate
sponsor, GE Capitals Robb Schwenker
and Joe Williams, Lori Hayes from United
Way in Waukesha Country presented the
benefits of born learning and the trails
attributes to add to amenities of the com-
munity park.
The board appreciated the United
Way created trail will help parents,
grandparents, caregivers and the commu-
nity create quality, early-learning oppor-
tunities for young children. Included in
the trail are signs with suggested activi-
ties for adults and children to participate
in together. For instance, the Watch!
Stop! Learn! Play! sign encourages care-
givers to follow the childs lead, building
the childs curiosity and confidence. This
series of learning activities is one that any
adult can play with young children at the
park.
Born Learning is a national public
engagement campaign that helps par-
ents, grandparents and caregivers
explore ways to turn everyday moments
into learning opportunities. GE Capital
will not only provide financial support but
also the volunteers to build and install the
trail signs. This is the second trail this
year for the GE Capital team dedicated
to the Menomonee Falls and Hartland
trails upkeep. Castle Park trail in
Hartland is targeted to be done by
Halloween making the potential for an
extra fun ribbon cutting spook-tacular
event.
United Way in Waukesha County is a
community-based non profit that identifies
and addresses local health and human
service needs by raising resources neces-
sary to positively impact lives and condi-
tions. The Born Learning Trails are help-
ing kids succeed and a great opportunity
to Give, Advocate and Volunteer.

Family Pet Clinic in Menomonee Falls has been
providing top-quality veterinary care to a strong base
of loyal and satisfied clients for more than 22 years.
I wanted to be a veterinarian since I was a kid;
its all I ever wanted to be, said Dr. Scott Fellenz
who opened the clinic in 1992. The clinic features
four experienced doctors and a knowledgeable staff
of receptionists and veterinary assistants.
Fellenz is a 1987 graduate of the University of
Wisconsin-Madison, which was the charter class of
the new veterinary school. The doctor practiced in
Marshfield, Menomonee Falls and New Berlin
before deciding to open his own clinic. A Falls resi-
dent for the past 24 years, he lives with his wife Arlo,
daughters Alexis and Ashtyn, and their family pets.
The other doctors are Dr. Kemberlie Anderson,
Dr. Erin Grevel and Dr. Dara Morrison-Sorgenfrei.
Fellenz says his own pets are like my kidsthey
have greatly enriched my life and the clinic prides
itself on protecting the cherished bond between ani-
mal and human.
Animals are so much more than just pets these
days; they bring so many benefits and positive results
to owners, and they are often used in hospitals for
therapy, said assistant practice manager Jackie
Helland. We want our clients to understand that we
know how important their pets are to them. They are
a member of the family and we give them the same
care a human would receive from a doctor.
The clinic also makes convenience a priority by
offering on-site services such as affordable dentistry,
digital X-rays, Ultrasounds, chemotherapy for cancer
patients and board certified consultations.
We do all these things right here in the clinic
instead of having to send the client to a specialist,
Helland said. Dr. Fellenz is excited about offering
new diagnostic procedures such as rhinoscopy to
evaluate nasal cavity problems in dogs and digital
dental x-rays.
Other services and products offered include: an
on-site pharmacy; senior wellness care; prescription
food such as Iams, Eukanuba, Hills Science Diet and
Waltham; ACL repairs; and microchipping. Also, pet
grooming is now available.
The continuous pursuit of education by the doc-
tors and staff is another way the clinic stays on the
cutting-edge of the field. This enables them to provide
a better quality of care to their patients, Helland said.
Our doctors attend veterinary seminars and
symposiums every year to expand their knowledge
base and be able to give clients the most current
information, said Helland.
And community involvement is key, Helland
noted, sharing how the clinic participates in the vil-
lages annual pet fair and assists with the high
schools Reality Check business class, teaching stu-
dents the costs and care involved with owning a pet.
The clinic also makes regular contributions to the
Companion Animal Fund which funds research into
diseases such as cancer.
Staying involved in the community is very
important to us, said Helland, adding that 22 years
makes a statement that no verbal proclamation can.
I enjoy practicing in this community because of
the love people have for their pets, said Fellenz. Its
one of the reasons why Dr. Jordan Lewis trusted us to
take over his patients when he decided to retire.
Unfortunately, Dr. Lewis passed away this past
December. The doctors and staff at Family Pet Clinic
have been proud to give Dr. Lewis patients the same
gentle care we provide to all our patients.
It just shows the longevity and loyalty our clients
have shown us and that we have returned to them,
Helland said. Our clients are comfortable with us
and can feel confident that their pets will receive the
best care and that we will be here for them when
they need us.

Girls volleyball: Falls wins
Mukwonago tourney
A game that started out fast was decid-
ed by an extended drive, as Germantown
topped Whitefish Bay 38-28 Sept. 4.
We learned a lot from both ends,
good (and) bad, Germantown Coach
Jake Davis said afterward. This is some-
thing weve got to take the good from it
and learn from the bad. We learned how
weve got to prepare for the North Shore
Conference a little bit more this week.
Whitefish Bay jumped out to an early
lead as the Blue Dukes defense stopped
Germantown on its first possession. Bay
then completed a nine play drive with a 2-
yard run by Adam Strehlow to lead 7-0 at
the 5:47 mark of the first quarter.
A fumble gave Bay possession at the
Germantown 45-yard line, and the Blue
Dukes finished a three play drive with an
11-yard pass play from Jake Fisher to
Macklin Kortebein to give Bay a 14-0 lead
with 1:49 remaining in the first quarter.
A 57-yard kickoff return gave
Germantown possession at the Bay 32
yard line, and Germantown got its first
score at the 7 second mark as Dwayne
Lawhorn Jr. connected with Steve Doran to
finish a five play drive.
Zack Van Beusekom then stepped inter-
cepted a Bay pass and ran it 41-yard the
opposite way to tie the score at 14-14 fol-
lowing the point after attempt at the 10:23
mark of the second quarter.
Three touchdowns were then added to
the scoreboard in the final three minutes
before halftime. A 1-yard run by Joe
Lemerond at the 2:35 mark finished off a
four play drive to give Germantown a 21-
14 lead. On the Blue Dukes next posses-
sion, Adam Strehlow followed his blockers
and broke open on a 76-yard run with
2:13 remain.
The ensuing kickoff was returned to the
30-yard line and a four play drive was fin-
ished with a 25-yard pass play from
Lawhorn to Doran with 58 seconds remain-
ing.
Afterward, Davis said the goal was to
start the game fast and physical but his
team didnt quite begin that way.
They (Whitefish Bay) came out exact-
ly like we thought. We just need to keep
going, we need to start better, Davis said.
Germantown added to its lead with a
nine play drive that ended with a 1-yard
run by Lawhorn with 6:55 remaining. An
interception on Germantown's next posses-
sion gave Bay the ball at the Warhawks
30 yard line. Bay responded with a two
play drive that ended with a 23-yard pass
play from Fisher to Strehlow.
After trading possessions, a punt by the
Blue Dukes was downed at the
Germantown 1-yard line. Germantown
began a 13-play drive as Lawhorn and
Cole Karcz connected on an 11-yard pass
play to get Germantown out of the shadow
of its own end zone. Germantown finished
the drive with a 27-yard field goal by
Schmitz with 2:26 remaining.
Bay started its final drive on the
Germantown 20-yard line and converted a
fourth down before Germantown's defense
held and stopped Bay. Lawhorn led
Germantown with 16 of 24 passes for 232
yards and two touchdowns.
Menomonee Falls 28, West Allis
Hale 14: Menomonee Falls jumped out
to a 14-0 lead on runs of 1- and 70-yards
from Bryce McMurtry. The teams then trad-
ed touchdowns the rest of the way.
McMurtry led Menomonee Falls by com-
pleting 9 of 12 passes for 140 yards while
also running eight times for 121 yards and
three touchdowns.
Hamilton 44, West Allis Central
0: Mike Barnes, Drew Kessen and Isaiah
Webb each ran for touchdowns for
Hamilton while Barnes and Webb connect-
ed on a pass play. Hamilton runners ran
42 times for 216 yards in the game.
