Stats Assignment 1

This document summarizes descriptive statistics from a sample of 150 employees, including 62 males and 88 females. Various tables and graphs show: the frequency and percentages of males and females; summary statistics like mean, median, and standard deviation for males and females; and a grouped frequency table and percentage frequency polygon comparing income levels between males and females. The analysis found that males on average earned about $10,000/year more than females, with midpoints of $55,000 for males and $35,000 for females. It also showed that the distribution of incomes was more spread out for males compared to females based on measures like range and standard deviation.

55($000s) whereas female has a midpoint of 35($000s). This shows that the difference in
income for male and female are 20($000s) per year.

(i) Variability is how spread out a distribution is. The four measures of variability are range,
standard deviation, coefficient of variance, and interquartile range.
As for the range for male, the lowest score is 1.50 and the highest score is 96.00. Therefore,
the range is 94.50. The range on female was smaller, the lowest score was 2.20 and the
highest score was 91.00. Therefore the range is 88.80.
The standard deviation for male is 17.36 while for female is 12.28. This shows that the
income for male has a greater spread.
As for the coefficient of variation, the income of male is 74.0% whereas for female is 62.0%.
For male, the upper quartile is 25.48 and the lower quartile is 13.57 so the interquartile range is
11.91. As for female, the upper quartile is 24.53, the lower quartile is 12.93, and the interquartile
range is 11.60, which has smaller spread.
