1.0 Introduction

1.1Meaning of software

Computer software, or just software, is any set of machine-readable instructions (most

often in the form of a computer program) that directs a computer's processor to perform
specific operations. The term is used to contrast with computer hardware, the physical
objects (processor and related devices) that carry out the instructions. Hardware and
software require each other; neither has any value without the other.

1.2 Meaning of hardware

Hardware is a comprehensive term for all of the physical parts of a computer, as
distinguished from the data it contains or operates on, and the software that provides
instructions for the hardware to accomplish tasks. The boundary between hardware and
software is slightly blurry - firmware is software that is "built-in" to the hardware, but
such firmware is usually the province of computer programmers and computer engineers
in any case and not an issue that computer users need to concern themselves with.

1.3 Meaning of operating system

The operating system is the most important program that runs on a computer. Every
general-purpose computer must have an operating system to run other programs.
Operating systems perform basic tasks, such as recognizing input from the keyboard,
sending output to the display screen, keeping track of files and directories on the disk,
and controlling peripheral devices such as disk drives and printers.

2.0The Latest Open Source Operating System(OS)
2.1 Meaning of Open Source Operating System

An open source (OS) operating system is a set of programs that schedule tasks, allocates
storage and presents a default interface to the user between applications. But this OS is
free, users have the right to use, modify and redistribute the software for better
interoperability.

2.2 Examples of open source operating system

2.2.1 Syllable

The CMS that builds our websites was used on Syllable Server so far, but now it
has been ported to Syllable Desktop. This was done by porting it to REBOL 3.
The screenshot shows Desktop building its own website in static batch mode and
synchronizing it with Amazon S3.This screenshot shows Webster previewing the
built site as local files. Building the websites on Syllable Server is around 35%
faster with REBOL 3 than with REBOL 2. A few longstanding problems in our
Russian website and documentation were fixed because REBOL 3 now
understands Unicode.

2.2.2 Ubuntu

Ubuntu is an operating system based on the Linux kernel and the Linux
distribution Debian, with Unity as its default desktop environment. It is
distributed as free and open source software.

3.0The Latest Open Source Application Software

3.1 Meaning of open source application software

Open Source Application Software includes database programs, word processors, and
spreadsheets and others. It is free to use, change, and improve the software, and
to redistribute it in modified or unmodified forms.

3.2.1 KOffice

A free, integrated office suite for KDE, the K Desktop Environment.

KOffice is an integrated office suite for the KDE (K Desktop Environment)
consisting of several applications like for examples a word processor (KWord)
and a spread sheet (KSpread). Based on the KParts component model, KOffice

5
offers a lot of interoperability between all its components. For example, you can
embed every KOffice component into another component (for example a
KSpreadtable into your KWord document.)
KOffice is an open-source project and completely free. All licenses are GPL-
compatible, mostly GPL or LGPL version 2. Apart exceptions, libraries and filters
are mostly LGPL, while applications are LGPL or GPL.

3.2.2 NeoOffice

NeoOffice is an office suite for the OS X operating system. It is a fork of

the free/open source OpenOffice that implements nearly all of the features of the
corresponding OpenOffice.org version for the Apple PC, including a word
processor, spreadsheet, presentation program, and graphics program. It
is ported by Planamesa Software, and uses Java technology to
integrate OpenOffice.org — originally developed for Solaris and Linux — with
the Aqua interface of Mac OS X. The latest version of NeoOffice is: 3.3

5.0 Pervasive computing

5.1 Meaning of pervasive computing

Pervasive computing relies on the convergence of wireless technologies, advanced

electronics and the Internet. The goal of researchers working in pervasive computing is to
create smart products that communicate unobtrusively. The products are connected to the
Internet and the data they generate is easily available.

5.3 Examples of pervasive computing

5.3.1 RUGGED RUKUS SOLAR SPEAKER

This tough, lightweight, splash-proof Bluetooth speaker is about six inches
squared. So it's small enough to travel with, yet features a large enough solar
panel to keep the music going all day. It fully charges in less than five hours in
direct sunlight, or just a couple hours via AC power. When the sun goes down and
you're not near an outlet, its battery can keep blasting tunes for another eight
hours—less, depending on how much you conveniently use it to supply power to
your thirsty mobile devices.

5.3.2 Sony smartwatch

This android compatible smartwatch can download applications for smartphone

lifestyle from Google Play. Multi-touch UI color OLED displayand when a call,
message or other notification comes in, this Sony SmartWatch acts as an Android
remote and gently vibrates on our wrist to let us know.

6.0 Conclusion

All in all, open source can be used by anyone because it has no copyright claim, so the user is
free to use, modify, and improve the software and redistribute it. Pervasive computing is to make
our lives easier because we can interact with computers. In addition, we can give instructions to
the computer and the computer will be in accordance with our requirements in accordance with
what we have set in it.
