The document describes a study that aims to produce ink from used motor oil and soot. Specifically, it seeks to determine the degree of adsorption and differences in grayscale of inks made with varying amounts of soot. The methodology involves preparing five ink mixtures with different soot proportions, printing with them, and analyzing retention factor and grayscale. The results show all inks produced the same black color and were highly adsorbed. Statistical analysis confirmed no significant grayscale differences between the inks.

The said study aims to produce an ink from used motor oil and soot. Objective of the Study General Objective: The said study aims to produce an ink from used motor oil and soot. Specific Objectives: The study aims to answer the following questions: 1. What will be the degree of adsorption of each set-up by determining the Retention Factor? 2. Will there be a significant difference on the grayscale of the five set-ups through the differences of the amount of soot? Scope and Limitation of the Study METHODOLOGY Acquisition of Materials Used motor oil and soot from motor vehicle exhausts respectively. Preparation of Ink Mixture of used motor oil and soot with different proportions. Ink for Printer Cartridges Prepared ink form used motor oil and soot. Paradigm of making oil-based inks for printer cartridges. It clearly shows that considering the amounts of soot in each set-up, still it obtained the same value of grayscale. Summary of the R f of the Different Ink Mixtures Soot (g) Distance of the solvent (cm) Distance of the solute (cm) Retention Factor (R f ) 0 10.8 0 0 0.05 11.2 0 0 0.10 10.2 0 0 0.15 10.8 0 0 0.20 10.8 0 0 Table 3 shows the retention factor values of the five inks as result to the paper chromatography. All of the values of the distance of solute were zero, so were the retention factors. This means that the inks are greatly adsorbed by the filter papers. CONCLUSIONS In the Grayscale and Value Finder TM all of the set-ups have the same grayscale values of one. This means that all of the printouts in the different set-ups produced the same grayscales and without considering the amount of soot in each set-up, still it produced a black printout. The Rf values of the five setups are all zero which means that the inks have a very good adsorption quality. The Analysis of Variance showed that there is no significant difference between the means of the five groups. The null hypothesis was accepted which means that there is no significant difference between the means of the five groups. Thus, there is no significant difference on the amount of soot on each set-up on the grayscale of the printouts that they will produce. RECOMMENDATIONS The researcher would like to recommend for the future researcher to continue my study to try different brands of printers not only Canon iP1900 series. This will strengthen the fact that the prepared ink that we made was not only applicable to only one brand of printer but on a wider range of quality printers available in the country.
